This chapter is finally gonna have more overt hypnosis-y vibes to it, and I hope you all enjoy.
CW for more childhood trauma, abandonment, etc
Tyr was floating. Flying, even. She could see the entire forest from under her, soaring through the skies, free and unbound by anything. The clouds around her were painted with pastel and the light blues, the humming and singing of all her hive-mates could be heard in the air. The sweet, soothing smell of flowers was everywhere, and she embraced it, flying about and just letting herself sink into the serene tranquility of a dream.
Soon, she found it. She was looking for it for a while now. The flower! It was so big, bigger than anything she'd ever seen before. And it was just right, it beckoned her to approach. "Good morning mister flower!" She called out with a happy and excited grin.
"And good morning to you too, little Tyr!" The flower laughed in a loud, booming voice, one that would shake a regular mortal off their feet. Not her, however. She knew this flower like an old friend, she knew all the flowers!
"Are you going back, little one? It's not your duty to be out there, you know. She's waiting for you to return."
"I knowwwww." Tyr pouted a bit, her Antenna swishing in the wind. "But it's nice to have some time out in the sun, it feels good!"
The flower smiled at her, somehow. "I'm sure it is, but go on. Scurry away, and I'll make sure that you'll get some mighty fine honey later, okay?" Tyr practically buzzed with delight, swishing in the air and making hoops in excitement. "Okay mister flower! I'll see you later!"
She turned tail after that, and flew. She knew exactly where to go. And everyone she met on her way welcomed her back, to where she belonged. The skies shimmered and shone with bright lights, the sun was setting and she was getting sleepy. Even in the dream, she needed some company. Despite all the other girls who waved hi to her, she needed something more specific.
She needed her.
As soon as the hive was in sight, Tyr dove right down. Going right through the entrance, through the winding tunnels and honey storage space, she was so excited to see her again. Even if she saw her every day, it was still exciting! Each time felt like something entirely new.
Soon, Tyr stopped by the doors to the throne room. She cleared up her fuzz, and made sure her stinger was sharp enough. Though right as she came to approach… She noticed something. It was clear in the doors of the throne room, polished to a mirror sheen. And when she saw it… She stepped back, as the dream began to collapse. When? How? Why? Suddenly, her brain began to question everything. How did she know the flowers? Where was she, how did she know the way? All while the horrified black, full eyes in front of her stared in horror.
Started at her own reflection.
Tyr's eyes snapped open, with a yelp of confusion and fear. Everything was so tight and colorful, she thrashed about for a moment before someone's arms curled around her a bit tighter. "Shh… It's okay Tyr, you just had a nightmare. That's all. Just relax and breathe in deep for me, okay?"
Fiona's voice did little to actually calm her down, and eventually the thrashing did it's job. The flower couldn't sustain their shared weight with all the moving and struggling, and in her panic to get out of there as soon as she could, Tyr realized she was now falling. Though before she hit the ground, Fiona came down to grab her, carrying the girl back to safe ground. "Please, what's wrong? You seemed so pea-"
"Shut up! Y-You've been doing something to me, haven't you? Making me have weird dreams all of a sudden." Tyr stepped back, afraid. "T-This was your plan, wasn't it? To… To fuck with my head? To lull me into a false sense of security?"
Each word was accompanied by a step back. More of the bee girls looked at her, worried. "Please, we mean you no harm, we just wanted to make you comfortable…" Eventually she felt her leg catch something, and she tripped, falling into the stream in the glade. It wasn't deep enough to sink in or anything, but she did nothing else. Something that she could only see in her reflection. Her eyes, they were…
They were black. Like theirs.
Tyr scurried back, screeching and trying to scratch her eyes out. "No! What did you do to me?! I-I-I thought you were fine! I…" She backed up more and more, until the edge of the glade hit her back. Tyr pulled out her knife, noticing that several of the girls were approaching her. "Stay back! Stay back or I'll kill you all!" This time, they didn't seem to heed her warnings or please. And, with no other way but what was behind her… Tyr turned tail, and ran.
She ran into the forest, as deep as she could. Avoiding trees, managing the root systems that crowded the floor, trying to avoid the ever constant buzzing that surrounded her. This time navigation wasn't that difficult at all. It was like she knew the forest like the back of her hand, and each buzz induced new instructions and directions. They knew, so she knew as well. Not that she had time to realize that.
Of course, that meant that they knew her location as much as she knew theirs. And before long, one of the bee girls managed to tackle her into the ground, holding her close. "G-Get off me!" She tried to stab the bee, only to realize that their skin was far tougher than she initially gave it credit for. The knife more or less bounced off the fae bee's wing, completely harmless.
More and more of them joined the first. Holding her, cuddling her, and buzzing. So much buzzing. It filled her mind. Where once she was used to relegating it to the back of her head, now it took front dead center. Filling her mind and pushing everything else out.
At first, she tried to resist, to push back against this noise. But it was fruitless. The buzzing of several dozen bees was far too intense for her frail, and slowly dwindling resistance to compete with. It drowned out all else, until there was nothing but the buzzing. Until her eyes were blocked, from the number of girls nuzzling her, holding her, flaring their wings to increase their body temperature high, but not high enough to actually hurt her. Just enough to keep a constant, warm nest in which she found herself falling.
Deeper and deeper the darkness consumed her. There was no light, no hope of escape. But she was still afraid. Afraid of what might happen to her now. Was she becoming one of them? Assimilated into a hive mind. Would she lose herself, who she is? She didn't want to lose herself, not yet. She still had the memories to cling to. Lora… It's been a bit since she thought about her.
She missed her so much. It's been barely two weeks, and she's yet to find a time to actually grieve. But now… Now that she was lost to the dark, and unable to even move an inch of her body. Now that resistance failed, and emptiness took it's place instead. Now did the tears begin to flow.
She cried. Cried and bowled. If Lora didn't die… Was she now one of them too? Just another drone, servicing whoever the Queen was? And what about the rest of their adventuring party? Did they get assimilated too? Turned into mindless bees like the rest of them? She didn't want to go. Not yet. Not until she found out the truth.
Then, the buzzing shifted, somewhat. Something happened, and all of a sudden, the warmth and comfort from the girls around her shifted to a more soothing cocoon of warmth. No longer were they just trying to drown out her thoughts. They were doing something else, and she could tell. They were guiding her. Shifting her perspective, slowly but surely. They've been doing that all this time now, but she no longer had the capacity to push back, letting the buzzing take her for a walk down her own memory lane.
First… There was home. Her home. Not the one she grew up in, the one with her father that abused her for years. Her real home, in the forest. Where her mother carried her as a baby, on her way to hand her off to a lifetime of despair. Tyr… She didn't want to linger on that. She was still afraid. Still hurt. The buzzing went forward.
Then… Lora. The beautiful, charming, amazing Lora. She could do anything. She could climb walls, and take down bandits, and stand up to her father, before taking the weakling Tyr with her to adventures beyond. Those days… They were better then. Finally, she found a place to belong. A person who accepted her for who she was, not how she was expected to be.
More years of her life spilled after that. Like warm honey, each memory ebbed and flowed through her consciousness, showing her. Trying to explain. She'd be okay. She was already accepted and loved for who she was, no matter what that was. The time she and Lora had to share a bed, the inn didn't have two rooms to spare. The fight time she cuddled anyone, really. She didn't forget it. How could she? It was burned into her brain forevermore.
What was the point of this, she wondered as the memories shifted to more present days. Them, traveling to the edge of this enchanted forest, with a simple mission. Lora, being taken away, all of them were. But… They weren't killed. This fact was immutably written into her mind, replacing the idea that they died. They were alive. They were waiting for her. She just needed to be ready. Just a bit more, and she could go. Go to the hive.
Go to her.
The thoughts in her brain changed, from that point. It wasn't just her own, anymore. She was thinking about what all of them were thinking about. The Queen. How beautiful she was, how perfect and majestic and amazing and divine she was, the perfect caretaker of the hive, the decision maker, the monarch. The absolute force of the hive itself, the center of its mind.
She wanted to go so bad. That same feeling that guided her dream came back tenfold. Now, no longer shrouded and muddled by the cozy confines of a sleeping consciousness, it was free to ravage her fully, and Tyr had no force to deny it anymore. She wanted to go. She wanted to be ready as quickly as possible, so she'd finally be able to meet their Queen. Join her infinite love to the others. She'd love her too, she knew it. The Queen loved everyone in her hive. And even if she wasn't part of it just yet, not fully… Tyr knew. Knew in the deepest reaches of her heart.
The Queen loved her too.
Suddenly, a lot of things made so much more sense. And as the girls holding her finally let go, seeing as she was much calmer now, Tyr looked back in retrospect about what happened thus far. She knew things that she couldn't possibly know, and she now understood why. The buzzing. It guided her. Taught her how to live in this forest. Gave her a nudge in the right direction when she needed it.
Putting a hand to her cheek, near her eyes were, Tyr smiled a little. She then reached to her back, the lower part, only to realize what was stinging her when she was sitting down. Her own new abdomen, growing slowly. The transformation wasn't starting only now, that would've been silly. It already began a while ago, when she first got stung. If nothing else, she finally knew how that fae magic worked.
Only now, instead of apprehension or fear, Tyr… Accepted. She'd be better here. The other girls understood. They'd accept her no matter what she was, because the hive accepted all of them for who they were.
"Are you okay?" One of them asked, and instead of responding with words, Tyr just hugged her, nuzzling her cheek affectionately. A nuzzle that was soon joined by several others, who relished in the physical touch of another. The group led her back to the glade, where she'd be able to rest, peacefully. "Yeah… I think I am. Sorry."
She wasn't ready, not yet. Soon enough, however. Soon enough, she'd finally be able to go there. Go to the hive she saw in her dreams. Go…
And finally meet the Queen.
And that's a wrap for now! I'll see you all around later, this has been fun to write. And I'm glad people are liking it.
Oh stars, this is making me all squirmy. 💜💜💜
