In 1985 a weary park ranger at Olympic National Park is sent to find out why dozens have disappeared on a remote mountain trail.

In the year 1874 a ramshackle expedition was assembled by the Royal Navy to plot a route through the fabled northwest passage. In those icy waters strange happenings are afoot, and Captain Robert A. Falcon finds he is in far more treacherous waters than he anticipated.
