Nora lay back against the wall of the back room, licking the blood off of her lips and coming down from the high of feeding. The man in her arms was limp, unmoving; she had no idea how much she'd taken from him. She'd been so hungry that everything blurred together after she got her fangs in his neck.

She looked down at him, realizing she'd probably have to take him to the hospital. It wasn't safe to go so long without feeding - it could drive a vampire feral, the growing hunger smothering their passion and forethought until all that mattered was taking what was theirs. Not that she'd had much choice, but that didn't make the problem go away.

Her victim was deathly pale; she began to doubt the hospital would be enough to save him.

She growled and held her head in her hands. Stupid, stupid Nora, she thought to herself, getting into another mess so soon after narrowly escaping the last one. She was supposed to lay low, and now she'd already made an irreversible mistake.

Whatever. What's done was done. She could only go forward from here.

Nora lifted her hand to her fangs and slit it open, then held it to the man's lips. Spawning another vampire was a dangerous thing to do - the last thing she needed was another pair of fangs competing for prey and getting into trouble - but it was preferable to taking a life, one of the few lines she hadn't yet crossed (and the fact it would probably draw even more attention than making a new vampire helped).

It took only a drop of coveted vampire blood to begin the process. Once it entered his system, he'd rise the following evening as a vampire. She held one of his eyelids open, the faintest glimmer of red behind his eyes assuring her it had taken successfully.

She tried not to think too hard about what she was doing. Terrible thing, forcing someone into an unlife of preying on others, but what choice did she have?

Desperately hoping nobody would notice her carrying around what appeared to be a dead body, Nora skulked through the backroads trying to find somewhere to leave it. The sky was starting to brighten, though the sun wasn't visible yet; she could feel her skin starting to itch even before sunrise began. She needed somewhere to put him, but she didn't even have a place for herself to sleep yet, let alone the person she'd drained. What a complete mess.

She eventually slid him down behind a dumpster in an alleyway, careful not to make much noise. Vampires were stronger than mortals, but a person was still heavy and cumbersome. She could only hope he'd still be there after sundown.

Her skin began to singe, sunrise approaching. She gritted her teeth and took to the nearest place she could hide from its light, dissolving into vampiric mist and slinking down a sewer grate.

There was very little room inside, but she was at least able to hang from one of the pipes in the form of a bat. She'd never had to do this before - it was utterly humiliating, an apex predator like her cowering in a mortal sewer, no lair to speak of.

That would change soon, she reassured herself. She'd arrived in the city only hours ago, alone and blood-starved, but if she was lucky, her and her new spawn would be the only vampires in a city ripe for the taking.
