Figured I should make a place to put stories that are too tiny to stand on their own. I'm thinking like a one-word theme. Kinda like Hypnovember. Except, you know, in June.
Anyway! This is the piece that broke my most recent writing slump. The idea came out of my head pretty much fully formed, like the Athena of stories. I decided to just sit down and write it instead of working on my day job. Yay for weaponized procrastination!
It's kind of a weird fucky take on a very common premise. It's a bit of a mess. I think it works okay!
“You are a hypnotized toy.”
Outlandish. Ludicrous. That’s what it felt like, the first time TOY heard it. Surely it couldn’t be that easy, could it? They’d been talking for a while now, and much had been learned. How it’s not at all like in the movies. How it requires trust, an intimate connection. ‘Rapport’, she called it. And yet…
I am a hypnotized toy.
The thought echoed in their mind, turned inwards. It seemed to happen all on its own. Had they thought it, or did it come from…elsewhere?
But wait, that couldn’t be true. She was saying something, earlier, something about…inductions? There was a process to this—
“Toys don’t think.”
That one’s true. Toys don’t think. TOY was surprised at their train of thought halting like that. How their focused shifted instantly, over to what she was trying to–
“You are a hypnotized toy.”
I am a hypnotized toy. That…that one wasn’t true, was it? What were they just…that’s right. There’s a process to this, it’s not like you can just say stuff like—
“Toys don’t think.”
Toys don’t think. –like that, and have it…um…thingy.
“You are a hypnotized toy.”
I am a hypnotized toy. These interruptions…made it hard to think. Thinking? Weren’t they just–
“Toys don’t think.”
Toys don’t think. Right. That meant…they couldn’t have been thinking. Because–
“You are a hypnotized toy.”
I am a hypnotized toy. Right. They…were they…?
“Toys don’t think.”
Toys don’t think. No thinking.
No thinking.
No thinking.
“You are a hypnotized toy.”
I am a hypnotized toy. They were a hypnotized toy.
