Lori, a college student, discovers she has a hypnotic trigger that turns her into a mindless, obedient drone. How? Why? And what’s going to happen when her roommate finds out? The two of them of struggle to unravel the conspiracy - without first giving in to their own temptations
I read this a few years back, before I’d even tried any real dronification stuff. It’s very solid. It doesn’t do anything weird, but it does what it does very well. It’s almost - but not quite - grounded in how things actually work, and has a great balance between plot and “plot.”
This story is part of what made me like the idea of drones so much, and I liked it enough I dug it back up on the site I originally found it on, despite the ability to search that site being terrible and the search taking probably more time and effort than actually reading it did. Glad to see it here on ROM now, definitely recommend it.
Half-cybernetic secret agent November is on the trail of a deadly pirate queen, but something else got to her first. Can November survive facing a bigger fish with her wits and will intact? No, obviously not. A darker kind of Human Domestication Guide story.
A fantastically horrific take on dronification! Definitely worth the read.
…And I most definitely did not at one point misread “bright pink bliss” as “bright blink piss.”
