"I should probably sleep," she said, after we've been talking for two hours. There was a hint of a pout in her voice, put out by such indignities as the human need for rest. 

I had to admit, I didn't want her to leave, either. But, "You need your rest." In my smoothest, most calming voice, I said, "How about if I petted your head. And down your neck, and down to your shoulders…"

"Unfair." Her protest was faint, voice taken over by sleep. 

"I can keep going, and make you fall asleep, or you could hang up and sleep on your own." I paused. "Or, I have another idea."

She made curious, sleepy noises.

"I'm going to give you a box," I said. "I'm going to place it all wrapped up in your mind. And when you're in bed, ready to sleep, you can open it.

"Inside the box there is an orb of light. And when you open it, it will glow softly, and expand, and expand. It will fill up your mind, and the light will fade, leaving only warmth behind it, and then you'll fall asleep." 

She made a soft, tired noise. "Yes, Sir."

"The warmth will make it so easy to fall right into sleep, knowing you're still following the sound of my voice and obeying my words. Just by falling asleep, as your body so badly needs."

"Yes, Sir. Thank you, Sir." She sounded half unconscious, faded into bliss. 

We said our goodbyes then, and hung up. A few moments later, I saw a message from her reminding me to give myself aftercare since she couldn't do it for me. 

I fell asleep smiling. I hope that she did, too.
