It was the day after Louise Tabor’s 45th birthday and, for the first time in years, she was out and about doing something she thoroughly enjoyed: shopping. Now, some people don’t need any reason to give in to their money-spending desires, but she definitely had plenty of motives to do so. From her new job to the apartment she had just bought downtown with fresh money won in the lottery, life was smiling down on her once again after so many hardships and now she was dying to pamper herself and make the best of it. After all, she deserved everything good the world had to offer.
Louise’s first passion had always been education. As a teen, she signaled her intention to become a teacher, something that pleased her mother and enraged her father, who had hoped to see her study to become a lawyer like him and, one day, perhaps start her own firm. However, she was adamant about her choice and never compromised. For a decade, she taught young children the joys of Math always overstating its importance for the rest of their lives but, one day, the enthusiasm was simply gone, and she could no longer enter a classroom and stare at those pre-pubescent faces without experiencing a seething rage bursting from within. It was then she knew she needed to find a new occupation before things got ugly, and she did.
In the years that followed, Louise had many jobs from working as a supermarket cashier to a receptionist in a local gym. Her last gig had been in a call center working ten hour-shifts trying to get people to buy useless trinkets they would never use. It was messy and annoying, a true testament to her mental strength but, for once in her existence, Fortune had favored her, and she couldn’t be happier.
Her circuit through the Shopping District turned out to be a fruitful one and the number of bags she was carrying was living proof of that. Everything from shoes and boots to elegant sweaters, dresses, and even some naughty underwear could be found among her newest acquisitions, and knowing she could pay for all of those on the fly was an extremely liberating experience.
However, as she strolled across the noisy sidewalks, her head roving from one lavishly decorated window to another, she felt that something was missing, though she wasn’t quite sure what. She stopped for a second, inhaled a breath of fresh air, and, suddenly, saw something that caught her attention.
On the corner of the busiest street in the whole city, there was this rather strange mixture of luxury and quaintness in the form of a shop specializing in human hair extensions, something she had always been fascinated with even when her purse attracted more moths than money. Though she loved her naturally red hair, she had the misfortune of not being able to let it grow much, as its unstable and rebellious nature usually resulted in something far more appalling than any representation of the mythological Medusa.
“Well, Louise,” she thought. “If you’re ever going to go forward with this dream of yours, what better time to do so?”
And so she listened to her inner voice and crossed the threshold into that new world of feminine splendor. Immediately, a young and pretty Asian woman with jet-black hair, almond-shaped eyes, and soft makeup on her eyes, cheeks, and lips, came to her, rocking a red sweater and tight leather pants. Gently touching Louise’s right hand, she said,
“Welcome. My name is Hui Zhang and here, I make everyone’s dreams of beauty come true. You have very nice hair, if I may say so myself, but I can see clearly just by looking at you, it’s not as perfect as you wish it to be, correct?”
“Yes,” the birthday woman said, somewhat surprised by the straightforwardness of the shop owner, but not upset by it. “I want to do something with it, but I’m not sure what.”
“I understand. Please know that here we offer only genuine human hair of the highest quality. We have Clip Ons, Pre-tipped, and Seamless extensions in various sizes and colors, all of which are guaranteed to make you fabulous on the outside but also on the inside. If you’ll allow me to show you some of our finer selections, I’m sure can find something to your liking.”
“Please do.” Louise lay down the bags by the main counter. “Is it okay if I leave these here?”
“Yes. You have nothing to worry about. Follow me, please.”
Hui Zhang led her across the various displays on the inside of the store, showing the quality and smoothness of the products and expressing great joy whilst doing so. Her energetic demeanor reminded Louise of herself at her age, and she couldn’t help but be impressed with it all, even though the prices were steep. Still, she could afford it and eventually reached a decision.
“What do you think?” Hui Zhang asked.
“I’m sold,” Louise replied. “I want one of those 18″ Seamless Deluxe Models if you have one that blends in naturally with my color.”
“But of course, and allow me to congratulate you in advance on your excellent taste, Mrs.…”
“Louise Tabor. And it’s Miss. I never married and I don’t plan to.”
“That makes two of us then,” Hui Zhang chuckled. “Very nice to meet you, Louise. Now then, I take it you never had extensions before, right?”
“Is that so obvious?”
“Yes. You had a childlike wonderment in your eyes as I was showing you around that I’m sure wouldn’t be there if you were already used to this. That’s good. I love showing new people just how much more beautiful they can become with the right choices.”
“It sounds like you have a lot of experience.”
“You can say that. How old do you think I am, Louise?”
“Early twenties, perhaps? You’re definitely a lot younger than me.”
“Pushing thirty-four and I’ve been in this business for almost half of my life, so yes, I know a thing or two, and when you leave this store with your new hair, I can guarantee you’re bound to get a lot of attention.
“Let’s do it, then.” Louise smiled. The prospect of being admired on the streets was something she was looking forward to, especially since it wasn’t very usual for her to be noticed at all regardless of how much she tried. “How long will it take?”
“Somewhere between one to two hours. If you don’t have the time to do it now, you can always come back tomorrow.”
“Nah,” Louise checked her watch. “Might as well take care of it before I chicken out.”
“Good choice.”
“This is just wonderful, Hui Zhang. Thank you very much!”
“You’re welcome, Louise. It really suits you. I bet you’re experiencing a rush of adrenaline, power, and beauty at the moment, aren’t you?”
“Most definitely.”
“Wonderful. I’m so happy for you. Can I ask but a small favor of you, then?"
“What is it?”
“If you have any social media accounts, would you mind shouting out to your followers about our establishment? One can never have too many customers.”
“Yes, I can do that. I’m not sure how many people I’ll reach but...”
“If you can persuade at least one to come to check us out, that will be more than enough. Thank you, Louise, and I hope to see you again soon.”
“I’m sure I will.”
When Louise exited the store, she was indeed a new woman. She was more alive than ever, and it was with great pride she saw heads spinning. Men and women alike stopped in their tracks to admire her unparalleled good looks and the rest of the day passed by quite rapidly, driven by her newborn confidence and euphoria. It was nothing short of amazing!
Then, night came, and things changed. Back in her house, Louise noticed that the new hair now looked somewhat darker but attributed it all to the differences in lighting. After having a quick meal and watching the local news, she called her best friend to tell her the good news.
Of all the people she knew, Linda was the only one that hadn’t tried to ask her for money the moment her fortune changed, and that was but one of the many reasons she loved her so much. The suburban housewife with two children under her care and a third only two months away from entering the world was a ray of sunshine too precious to be ignored and she loved her dearly. She didn’t know it yet, but she was in for a big surprise before the end of the year.
“Hey girl,” Linda chirped when she heard her friend’s voice. “How are you?”
“Wonderful. You won’t believe what I did today.”
“Tell me.”
“I’d rather show you,” Louise sent her a small video of her new radiant mane and smiled. “Be honest. How do I look?”
“Like one hot mama. I love it!”
“Me too.”
“Did you have a good day?”
“Sorry. Catherine has a dentist’s appointment, and my parents are coming over the weekend. I’m free next Monday though if that’s okay.”
“Sure. What are you up to?”
“Getting ready to put the girls to sleep. I’m tired. It’s been a long day.”
“Mine as well, believe it or not. Next Monday then. I want to buy you something nice for you and the kids.”
“Aww, you know you don’t have to.”
“Either way, I still want to do it. Here at ten, or would you rather if I pick you up?”
“It’s best if you’re the one to drop by. The belly is starting to weigh now.”
“Okay. Give my best to your parents tomorrow and we’ll talk soon.”
“Bye.”
With the call over, Louise retired to her bedroom. She wasn’t lying about the shopping spree being a tiresome one and the rest was sure to do her good. Less than ten minutes later, she was already sound asleep.
The whispers began the moment she slipped into the R.E.M. phase, disembodied voices from depths unknown, reaching out into her subconscious with simple one-liners repeated over and over again:
Relax.
Surrender.
Obey.
As the hair receded, Louise reached for her pussy and fingered herself, the dripping fluids covering her hand with an unquenchable thirst for lust. She went deeper and deeper, faster and faster until she woke up, wrought in pearly beads of sweat and utter orgasmic delight, still hearing the voices echoing all around and becoming more and more in tune with what they had to teach her. She tried to go back to sleep, but she was too horny to think about anything else.
“What the fuck?” she muttered, holding her sticky nails to her lips. She couldn’t remember the last time she had felt such a strong urge to masturbate let alone go through with it. She rolled out of bed to clean herself, a clear message flashing inside her mind as her thoughts went blank.
Relax.
Surrender.
Obey.
* * *
“I knew you’d be back here, sooner or later, Louise,” she confessed. “I wasn’t expecting it to be so soon, though. Are you confused?”
“Yes.”
“Do you want me to tell you what’s happening to you?”
“Yes, please,” she replied meekly, aware that this woman was somehow superior to her and that just being in her presence was an unparalleled honor.
“As I told you yesterday, we only deal with quality hair here. Everything is pure about it, except for the chemicals applied to the fibers.”
“Chemicals?” Louise mumbled.
“Yes, a combination of psychotropic, narcoleptic, and hypnotic drugs. Every extension is laced with them. Once they’re intertwined with our customer’s natural hair and the drugs permeate their skin, three things happen; first, a sense of overwhelming joy, then a slow rewriting of the neural pathways associated with pleasure, and finally, well... How are you feeling today?”
“Like I’m floating in a dream. It’s so..."
“Natural? Yes, it is. Everything is as it should be as long as you relax, surrender, and obey. This hair is now a part of you and so are your new thoughts. Don’t fight it, my dear. The less you resist, the happier you’ll feel.”
“You’re trying to take over my mind...”
“Trying? No, Louise. We don’t try here, we simply do it. From the moment you walked in, I was sure you’d be a wonderful subject, and this little experiment is just the beginning. Once your thoughts are shaped accordingly, you’ll make a fine addition to my other business as well.”
“Other... business?”
“But of course! You don’t actually believe that selling hair makes a lot of money, does it? No. There’s a lot more to be made in renting and selling obedient playthings to the highest bidder and natural redheads are a must for any online catalog. A mature woman like you is just what I needed. Thank you, Louise.”
Horrified yet unable to move, Louise stared vacantly into the store owner’s eyes. The craving for complete submission was in her hair, in her body, and in the core of her soul, keeping her glued to her seat. Like a mindless automaton, an extension without intention, she would do whatever she was ordered to do, forever and ever.
