"...so then I had to fix her mistake too..."

 

We were sitting at the dinner table and you were telling me about the amazing problem-solving you'd done at work that day. Even though you had been able to get everything sorted out (like a total badass, I might add), you seemed to still be carrying the stress of the day, and I thought I could help with that.

 

I reached as subtly as I could for the small stone we kept on the table, partially as decoration, and partially for the purpose for which it was about to be used. It was a flattened oblong shape, with a rough side and a polished side. Usually, the gray rough side of the rock was showing, the polished side sitting against the table. The polished side, currently hidden by the table, was a shiny surface with pink and purple swirls.

 

I turned the rock over to display the polished side, letting it make a small sound against the table to draw your attention.

 

"Ohmygod, but even though she is the literal worst at her job, you should have seen her makeup today. It was on point." You sighed wistfully. "I wish I could pull off bubblegum pink lipstick. Hey! Why don't we go look at some makeup after dinner?"

 

I grinned and turned the rock back over, hiding the pink swirls against the table top once again.

 

"What was I saying? Oh yeah, so I had to make sure I got her mistake fixed before I could even tackle Ben's, and the whole thing was a complete clusterfuck. But I kept my cool and..."

 

I turned the rock once again.

 

"...was like, a total boss-ass bitch. I swear, I am the smartest and the prettiest one in that whole office. They should give me some kind of brainy award!"

 

I let you go on, praising yourself in your unique bubbly-bimbo-mode way, and when it seemed you were starting to let go of the stress of the day, I turned the rock back over to its original position.

 

You gave me a kiss on the cheek before reaching over and turning the rock pink side up again.
