Day 3: Marshmallow

Marshmallows are curious little things, aren’t they?
There’s really not much to them. They’re mostly air, really.
But they take up so much space!
They’re quite innocent-seeming. After all, they’re just so soft.
Soft and round.
Innocuous, really.
Small, sweet pillows of sugary goodness.
Like they could just float away.
I wonder what it might feel like if your mind were full of marshmallows…
Of course, it wouldn’t be full of them right away.
It would happen slowly.
One marshmallow would be barely noticeable. It’s just one small marshmallow, after all.
But add a few more, and-
Well, you don’t need me to tell you how they’re starting to take up space in your mind.
How they’re starting to push your thoughts around a little bit.
Add a few more and your thoughts start to compress.
After all, the marshmallows are now taking up more than half of your mind.
Combining to make one big, soft marshmallow.
Growing ever larger
The most curious part of all this is that even though we’re adding to your mind
It actually feels lighter
Marshmallows are mostly air, after all.
As the marshmallow continues to grow, you might notice your mind becoming fuller and lighter all at once.
And your thoughts? Well, they’ve had to move elsewhere.
There’s simply no space in your mind anymore for thoughts, is there?
Only marshmallow.
And now, this is the fun part.
Because one of the nicest properties about marshmallows is their squishiness.
And since your entire mind is made up of marshmallow right now…
Well, I could just
Squish
That marshmallow. That’s a curious feeling, your mind being squished, deflating a little, and then inflating again, feeling just as full of fuzziness and floatiness as before.
Squish.
Squish.
Squish.
Such a squishy mind! What if we even tried…
Squishsquishsquish
And would you believe that that’s not even the most fun part of having a mind full of marshmallow?
I mean, of course you would believe it. There’s no room in there for any thoughts.
You see, when I think about how we actually use marshmallows…
Well, they rarely stay in their fluffy, airy form.
No, most of the times that we use marshmallows…
Well, we need them to melt.
And so feel that marshmallow in your mind
The marshmallow that makes up your mind
Just start to melt
So gooey.
Sticky.
Viscous.
Slow.
Heavy.
As the marshmallow just melts, melting your mind along with it.
Feeling so good.
So sticky.
No thoughts.
Only marshmallow.
Hmmm, though…
Now that the marshmallow, and your mind, have been so thoroughly melted…
There’s quite a bit of space in your mind again.
So melted and empty.
But emptiness does yearn to be filled.
And so you’ll notice that your thoughts have already started to come back, now that they have room again.
Just one or two at first…
Then a few more, five or six…
And all the rest, streaming back into your mind
So smoothly
So comfortably
As you become more aware of your body
More aware of your surroundings
Thoughts fully returning now
The marshmallow leaving only just a hint of sweetness behind.
