“8… 9… and 10! Wake!”

I stretched and blinked as I came up out of trance. I knew what was coming next, and I honestly had no idea how it would go.

It was a very strange sensation. My hypnotist slipped into their smooth hypnotic voice, which, as usual, had me starting to move toward trance more or less immediately. Long past the point when I would have typically been fully entranced, however, I was still drifting just above the precipice.

I wanted to fall. Badly. I tried helping the trance along by rolling my eyes back, by taking deep breaths, by relaxing my jaw and shoulders… still, I couldn’t get fully into trance.

My hypnotist, still speaking softly into my ear and saying all the sweet things that normally took me under their control nearly instantaneously, started to stroke a finger down my spine. I shuddered in pleasure, desperately trying to let myself fall. I whimpered as I felt myself again come up against…

I wasn’t sure exactly. It was almost like there was a glass floor, allowing me to see down to the trance below without any ability to access it. And no matter what I did, I couldn’t find a way down. No matter what my hypnotist did, no matter how well-conditioned I was to it, no matter how many trance triggers they used, no matter how much I whimpered, squirmed, and begged, I simply couldn’t penetrate the glass.

All of a sudden, a timer went off, and the glass simply vanished and I plummeted down, down, down… I couldn’t even register my hypnotist’s words.

“30 minutes already! That was fast! Such a wonderful subject, taking on that suggestion so strongly… Don’t worry, I’ll let you enjoy this nice trance for a little while before we try again. What do you say we see how strongly a suggestion not to go into trance for 45 minutes holds? Oh, too deep to even respond? That’s okay… as you always say, any good experiment requires replication!”
