LoFi
by misshypnofascinated
It is late at night. There is a stack of papers on my desk and a list of actionable emails that is just as long, if not longer. And most of them need to be finished before the end of the week. I have some work to do. I send a quick message that tonight is not a good night to play. I'm not happy about it, but work comes first. I get a response back, that I get a reward when the work is done. As motivation. I smile and text back that I look forward to it. I refill my tea and switch to the music app. I select a themed LoFi playlist for this season and start to work. The papers are my first target. I sort them, and work from most important to least. Those that can wait, I put aside. The music is keeping my mind on track, its mellow tones keep the back of my mind busy as I cut through the to-do list. The subtle modulations make it interesting enough for me to go through the boring emails, and the simple patterns don't distract me and I respond to the hard ones. I'm so focused on my work, that I miss that you come through the door. But as you see that I'm lost in my work, you turn away again. I let the soft and dreamy synth sound guide me as I prepare the reports and write documentation. I don't even think about the perfect flow state I reached. I just continue.
That is, until I feel a hand on my shoulder, and my office chair is gently turned away from the screen. I look up with soft eyes. You take my chin in your hand, and I can't help myself as I feel a dopey smile forming. "I guess your trance focus has become a transferable skill, girl. I never saw you work on paperwork like this before. You have been working for hours and hours." I did? It felt like… and I find out I have no idea how much time passed. I just know I was doing amazing work. And it feels good. "But now it is time to come to bed with me. Let's see if I can keep that incredible focus and use it for something else than work." And I smile even wider and simply follow you to the bedroom.
