Kate and Megan's relationship was strange but romantic. The two pretty women were rivals throughout their college days, Kate was a student from Thatcher College and Megan was coming from Kinnock University; both schools had been rivals in academic or non-academic since the time they were built. Kate and Megan were their school’s debate club captains, they fought a lot in competition and also compared a lot outside of the debate competition, mostly by the boys in both schools who compared their appearance. Kate was a blonde-haired white girl, her hair was long, down to her back. and she had a fringed bang on the front. She had a pretty face with unblemished skin. Kate was lacking in her chest with barely there B-cups but she had a nice huge bubbly buttock, meanwhile her rival, Megan was a Latina beauty with sleek shoulder-length black hair. “Cheers for the first anniversary of our love!" Kate lifted her glass of wine.

Tonight, Kate and Megan decided to spend the first anniversary of their relationship in an upscale hotel. They even wore a similar red-colored couple's dress to celebrate their relationship mileage as both of their favorite color was red, and they believed red was a color of love. 

“Wait a minute, ladies, don’t drink your wine yet,” before the girls were able to drink their wine to kickstart their celebration, someone stopped them suddenly.

The ladies looked at the man who suddenly appeared in their room without knowing how he did that.

“How can you intrude into our room? I will call security if you don’t go away instantly!” Megan bravely threatened the stranger.

“No need to be angry or scared of me, ladies, the two of you should calm down and be as relaxed as possible. The two of you will not move from your seats, and you will listen attentively to what I say until I am done,” the stranger said.

The effect of the stranger's words was happening in an instant, Kate and Megan seemed to be rooted in their seat, unable to stand up. The two of them also were strangely able to calm down despite the situation they were in, gone were their panic and aggression, the two ladies looked at the stranger as if his presence in the room wasn’t a big deal.

“Good, now, we can talk,” the stranger grinned at them, “let me introduce myself, you can call me The Adjuster, my job is to adjust the situation or people to what my client desires.”

“So, Mr. Adjuster, do you want to ‘adjust’ us?” Kate asked.

“Correct, 10 points for Thatcher College, no reward for you though,” The Adjuster continued, “I had been working for my client to ensure Thatcher College and Konnick University rivalries keep going on at every level possible, and my client had just noticed your relationship, something that contrary to the spirit of rivalries of both schools, so, unfortunately, we can’t let both of you keep your relationship. I am a kind man, so, I will let you speak your heart out to each other before I adjust you to the right state of mind my client wanted.”

In an instant, the calmness of their mind vanished again, panic and fear filling their mind. Megan tried her hardest to think of a way out of this situation but Kate beat her to it with a solution she didn’t want to use, “Let Megan go, you can do anything you want to me, but please, let her leave safely from this room,” Kate said.

“No, Kate, how can you say that? I will not leave you alone, and even if someone could leave, it’s you who should leave safely instead of me,” Megan replied, trying to save her girlfriend.

“How touching, I feel bad to ruin this relationship, am I that evil?” The Adjuster mumbled, but his mumbled still could be heard clearly by two of them and took the girls’ attention.

“If you feel bad, should you let us go?” Kate asked, she and Megan were looking at The Adjuster with hope on their face.

“Of course…Nope, I am that evil, you know, I had been in this job even before you two were born, there have been numerous people with a more touching story that I ‘adjusted’,” The Adjuster shrugged his shoulder comically, his grin grew even wider, “truth to be told, I want to see how you react when I release my control over your emotion, most of my victim chose to plea like you, but the clever one tried to make an advantageous deal for themselves because they know that they were unable to escape from me, I thought you ladies will choose the latter, considering both of you was a debate club captain back in the college days, but eh, you girls chose to spend your chance for something cliché like love instead of being smart, love indeed made people stupid.”

“I think that's enough exposition on my part, you ladies should let me adjust your mind without any futile resistance,” The man said, “you are no longer rooted in your chair, I want you to stand up, and look at each other.”

Both Kate and Megan’s bodies were back under the Adjuster’s control, and they could only follow his command. They stood up from their seat, and then faced each other silently, waiting for the next command from their captor.

“I want both of you to observe every little detail you can catch about your partner, and examine each other from the head to the toe thoroughly.”

“Kate, after a moment of observation, do you like what you see right now?”

“Yes,” Kate answered monotonously.

“What’s the reason?” The man asked again.

“Because I love Megan, every part of her is lovely to be seen, looking at her always puts a smile on my face,” Kate replied, her voice a bit trembling, compared to the previous brief monotone answer, Kate’s emotion could be felt from this reply.

“Tch…what a cliché answer, Megan, your turn, do you also like what you see right now?” The Adjuster gave Kate a stink eye and then turned to Megan.

“Yes,” Megan nodded.

“Again, tell me the reason, also, I don’t want you to say the same answer as Kate!” said The Adjuster.

“Kate is so gorgeous and smart, despite that, she is still kind-hearted and humble, I think she is a perfect woman, I’m happy to be her close confidant and her lover,” Megan answered, her tone full of admiration toward her lover.

“Acceptable answer, well done Megan, let’s work with the answers in our hands. Because I don’t like your answer, Kate, I will start with you first.” The Adjuster turned his attention to Kate, “My following question will be yes or no questions, but you will answer it with yes until I say otherwise, do you understand?”

"Yes," Kate nodded.

The enigmatic and powerful man then started asking her questions, “Megan said that you are a perfect package of brain and beauty, having both outer and inner beauty. Too bad, you aren’t like what Megan thought of you, yes? Because no one in this world is perfect.”

“Yes,” Kate was back into answering The Adjuster with a monotonous voice.

“Because you aren’t as Megan thought you to be, it means that you are a fake person who likes to lie to people around you, yes?”

“Yes.”

“That means you prefer to be as fake as possible, both in appearance and in your personality, yes?”

“Yes.”

“Megan said that you are a humble person, and kind-hearted, but because we established it was all fake and just a lie you made, your true personality should be the very opposite of humble and kind-hearted; an arrogant and selfish bitch, yes?”

“Yes.” Kate's expressionless face then started to be expressive once more. The pretty blonde woman now sport a cruel, annoyed smirk and gaze full of disdain that Megan had never seen the previous Kate make.

Every single ‘Yes’ Kate answered had hammered a nail to her old self, chipping it and sculpting a new personality for her, a new Kate that the Adjuster envisioned.

“You are an arrogant, cruel, and selfish bitch, but you went so far even faking your personality to get close to Megan, there must be a hidden motive behind your action, yes?”

“Yes.”

“Hidden motives mean that you have ill-intention for Megan, yes?”

“Yes.”

“Having an ill intention toward her means that you in no way are in love with Megan, yes?”

“Yes.” Kate winched in pain, something seemed to be pulled from inside her when she answered the man this time, but the feeling quickly passed.

“And considering you two have been a rival at school, you must quite hate her, yes?”

“Yes.” After the pain, this time, she felt a wicked coldness on her chest, it was a filthy feeling that made her want to puke, but it was also strangely comforting. The coldness had frozen her ability to feel love and empathize with others.

“Even after your graduation, you are still fully loyal to your alma mater, Thatcher College, and will do anything to help them win the rivalries between the two schools, I believe it is the reason that you approach Megan, yes?”

“Yes.” A brand new slavish devotion and loyalty to her alma mater was imprinted on Kate's mind.

“Thank you for answering my question, Kate, but I have a last question, you are free to speak what is on your mind to answer this one.”

“Yes?” Kate was still puzzled after several questions from him that she couldn’t answer with anything but yes.

“Kate, look at the woman in front of you, do you like what you see right now? No need to answer yes for this one.”

“Hmm…No,” Kate said coldly.

“What’s the reason?”

“I hate her, her entire presence is an obstacle for my school, she already makes me upset just by her existing,” Kate grumbled, her eyes staring daggers at Megan.

The Adjuster nodded in approval over Kate's answer’, he had adjusted Kate to have the ‘right’ mindset, just as his client wanted, but he was not done yet, “Kate, please tell us, why did you want to get close to Megan considering you hate her so much?”

“Being close to her means I can monitor her every move and sabotage her when needed, I also want to play with her feelings and stab her in the back,” Kate said nonchalantly as if it were no big deal to say her plan in front of her target.

“What a sly idea, I like that,” The Adjuster said with a praising tone, he then turned his attention to Megan, “Megan, what do you think about this new version Kat? Do you like it? you are free to talk now until I tell you otherwise.”

Megan looked at the man in horror, she had heard everything the man said to Kate, the love of her life had been twisted and corrupted by the strange man, “What have you done to Kate!? How could you turn a sweet kind-hearted girl into that? This is impossible, I…I must be just having a nightmare right now.”

The Adjuster chuckled, “This is as real as you think it is, anyway, thank you for your response, Megan, your scared and disbelieving face was priceless, but, now, I have heard your opinion, so you can go back to silent mode.”

The Adjuster then looked at Kate, “Kate, I want you to temporarily regain your old self, but you still remember everything that was happening.”

As if a switch was pressed in Kate’s mind, she instantly remembered what the man did to her, and the cruel thing she had just said to her love, that she wanted to sabotage Megan and crush her feelings. Kate realized the horror of The Adjuster’s ability now, with only a few words, he could rebuild her personality and even make her feel that she had always been that way.

"For fairness purposes, I want you to be fully aware when I twist and mold Megan into a new woman like when she saw me do it to you,” The Adjuster continued, “Now, let’s begin to work on our beautiful brunette lady!”

“No... don’t! please let Megan leave, isn't changing me already fulfilling your mission of creating a gap between us?” Kate pleaded.

The Adjuster shrugged his shoulder, “Well, yes but no, just adjusting one of you isn’t enough, I will not do such half-assed work.”

“So, no more begging to leave one of you alone, it’s useless, anyway, let's get back to work, Kate, what kind of people do you hate the most?” The Adjuster asked Kate.

“I hate those vain, money-worshiping, homewrecking slut the most,” Kate blurted out her answer even when she didn’t want to respond to the Adjuster’s question, she knew that the man would use her answer to twist Megan but she was unable to control her mouth.

“Now, that’s an interesting answer, do you have any experience dealing with that kind of woman that left a lasting hatred on you?” The Adjuster asked curiously.

“My father cheated my mother with a homewrecking gold-digger secretary of his, even though my parents didn’t end up in divorce, but the harm was already done to our family!” There was a trace of anger in Kate’s tone.

“Thank you for your answer, Kate, now, let’s go back to your lovely partner, Megan.”

The Adjuster turned his focus to Megan once again, this time he had thought about how to play with the brunette-haired lady after an input from Kate.

“Megan, what do you think of the gold-digger secretary of Kate’s father who almost ruined Kate’s family?”

“She is a vile bitch, I think a woman who likes to ruin other people's families for her gain is so shameless and no different than a whore, I hate women like that,” Megan answered.

“A homewrecking whore...Well said, but you don’t need to lie, worry not, I will not judge you,” said The Adjuster.

“I lied?” Megan was puzzled, she was sure that what she said was her honest opinion, but The Adjuster had nudged her mind here and there, causing her to doubt herself.

“Yes, but let's put it aside for now because I have another order for you; I want you to describe what kind of woman is your role model, the one you aspired to be.”

The Adjuster nudged Megan’s mind with his power once again, increasing her dopamine level, and made her enthusiastic to answer, “My role model is my mom, she worked as a public prosecutor; she is a smart, strong, and brave woman who has put numerous evil and corrupt criminal into prison, but when she isn’t on work, my mother is a kind and caring mother to her children, to be a woman like my mother is my aspiration; strong and respected in her career, yet gentle and warmth for her family.”

“Thank you for your answer, Megan, yet you still lied to me,” The Adjuster shook his head.

“I didn’t lie, my mother is really my role model and my aspiration!” Megan denied the Adjuster's claim that she was lying.

“No need to be all defensives, don’t forget that I am all-powerful, I know yourself better than you,” said the Adjuster, “Well, it’s time to expose your lies.” The powerful mind controller grinned cruelly.

“Your first lie is about your impression of the gold-digger secretary Kate’s father. You said that you hate this kind of woman, but I can tell that it’s a lie, these vain, gaudy, vile, homewrecking gold-digger slut is the type of woman you dreamed of being, your role model in life.”

“No…No…No, I want to be a strong, and respectable woman like my mother, I don't want to be a slut or whore!” Megan denied The Adjuster as hard as she could, trying to resist the invasion of The Adjuster's words in her mind.

The Adjuster clicked his tongue, and sneered at Megan, “Really? I don’t expect it coming from a law-breaking, and bratty girl like you who cheated her way to her current position will say that; I know what kind of person you are, you can’t endure hardship, if offering your holes to your superior will get you a better grade or position, you will do that without any hesitation, am I right, Megan?" His words nailed into Megan's psyche changing her memories from when she was in school to her life in the office. 

“Y-Yes,” Megan wanted to keep denying the man's words, but she found herself in a similar situation to what Kate experienced before, she was somehow unable to answer ‘No’ to The Adjuster’s question.

"And you call a woman who nonchalantly sells her body for her interest, a slut, right?

"Yes."

“So, because you are this kind of person who nonchalantly offers your body for grades and promotion, it's not wrong for me to call you a slut, and saying that your mother is your inspiration is an obvious lie. As a slut, you hate the law and its enforcer, including your mother because she could take what you have gained from fucking other people. This is the reason that those vain, gaudy, slutty, homewrecking gold-digger become your role models because they are very different and contrasting from your mother and more in line with your characters, am I right?”

“Yes…” Megan was powerless to resist the urge to answer the Adjuster’s question. 

“But it’s undeniable that you still inherit the intelligence from your mother, alas, you use your brain for the wrong purpose, instead of upholding justice, you use your expertise and connection to exploit the law because you are crooked and corrupt, am I right?”

“Yes,” Megan's mind stopped resisting The Adjuster's words and began to answer his question firmly without the previous hesitation.

“You took gold-digger as your role model, and you are an expert in exploiting the law, it is safe to guess, that you love exploiting people who are in a relationship with you, then taking all their wealth for yourself, yes?”

“Yes.” She knew that The Adjuster knew about her better than herself, she couldn't hide anything from him.

“You are in a relationship with Kate, and considering that your purpose is to exploit her, and take her wealth, there’s no way you are in love with her, yes?”

“Yes.”

“So, let me guess the reason you are doing this; Kate was from your rival school, even after graduation, you are loyal to your alma mater, so, her downfall will give you a sense of accomplishment, hence you let Kate approach you, and then have a relationship with her, but you have planned to backstab her and take everything from her, am I right?”

“Yes,” Similar to what he did to Kate, the Adjuster instilled a blind devotion toward her alma mater, Kinnock University, in Megan's mind.

Unlike how Kate reacted nonchalantly, Megan looked at the Adjuster with an unkind gaze, she didn’t like how this man was revealing her plan in front of her target. She didn't want an increase in difficulty in manipulating Kate.

The Adjuster could tell what was on Megan's mind, and reassured, “Worry not, both of you will soon forget about this.”

The Adjuster turned his attention back to Kate, “What do you think about my change to her?”

“You evil! You ruined her dreams and aspirations just because someone didn’t want to see us in a relationship. People will notice our change and will not let you go!” replied Kate to the Adjuster.

The Adjuster laughed toward the blonde girl, “lady, do you think the police can catch me? What wishful thinking, believe me, nobody will notice your change, I have been in this job for a long, and I never get caught, anyway, let's end this farce here, I had enough fun playing with you girls, so Kate, you can now back to the passenger seat, and let the new you take over.”

In an instant, Kate, who was previously saddened by the change to Megan became stoic and cold, instead of feeling sad and showing sympathy to her old lovers, Kate was busy thinking of how she could backstab Megan. Similarly, Megan was also thinking about how she could take Kate’s wealth at the same time.

“You two should take a look at each other once more,” The Adjuster commanded and the two women followed his command.

“At this point, both of you probably hate each other, yes?” The Adjuster asked.

“Yes.” Both Kate and Megan said in unison.

He could feel the heating tension and growing hostility between the two. The Adjuster smiled, satisfied with his handiwork, “And now, for the last touch, Hear me out, ladies; both of you were similar to wild cats, two wildcats that fight each other all the time to show who owns the territory, there is not enough room for the two of you to share, the two of you exist to beat each other."

“Megan, you are a wildcat. A nasty, aggressive wildcat. You are a ferocious and cunning one. You are the one with the initiative to attack the other wild cat. You are willing to do whatever it takes to get what you want. You are an expert in manipulation, you will be proactive in trying to make Kate lose her wealth, lose her position, and lose her reputation among her friends and loved ones.”

“Kate, you are a wildcat too, but you are different from Megan, you are a passive, defensive, and resilient one, you bid your time and wait for the other wild cat to take the initiative and then try to counter-attack her. But, having no initiative means you are often hurt first by Megan as you will be hapless but to play along her scheme in bringing you down, and that makes you hate her even more. Hence, every counter-attack you do will be ruthless, aiming for the matter that will hurt Megan the most.  Megan hurt you by quantity, you hurt her by quality. Oh, Megan would never hurt you physically, but you may be physically rough to her to vent your frustration when Megan has brought you down to her trap a few times, you are her abusive girlfriend after all, be creative when you two have sex, you may slap, whip her, kick her in her pussy, etc, that make her feel pain.”

The Adjuster walked between them and took two glasses of wine that Megan and Kate had put on the table when he interrupted them before. He handed the girls their glasses of wine back.

“Once I leave the room, you two will resume with your toast, forgetting that I was ever here, and you will not even remember this conversation we had. Your thoughts will be filled with how to beat each other so you can decide whose alma mater was the best. Also, both of you will think the other party is oblivious to your ill intentions, hence, in others' presence, you will do your best to maintain the impression that the two of you are still a loving couple. Megan, you will act as a lovestruck lover in front of Kate, so despite Kate being quite abusive and rough to you, you will 'forgive' her act but will take revenge behind her back; and Kate, as I said before, your role is Megan's abusive girlfriend,  you may be a little sadistic with her in bed, so act the role, it's one of your very few advantages against Megan. Do you two get it?”

“Yes,” the two ladies said in unison.

“One last thing; the bottom lines of your rivalry are only that you can’t murder each other or other people, but you want to see each other end as miserably as possible. Well, I think that's all that I want to say before I go.”

After seeing the two women nod their heads to his last command, The Adjuster moved toward the exit door, before he left he turned to the ladies one more time, “Cheers for the long-lasting rivalry between Thatcher College and Kinnock University. The rivalries must go on.”

The door of the suite room was quietly closed and the sound of glasses clinking with each other could be heard from inside the room.
