Neurotic Love
More Work To Be Done
by deathrosepetals
Work in a committed loop, same year after year.
Eight AM, beautiful morning in the city. The shadows cast by skyscrapers induce a sort of trance for travelers. The traffic irritates many in the daily occurrence yet simultaneously relaxes because of its sense of normalcy.
Sémillon was in his first floor cubicle two hours early which was typical. The coffee he drank was from his favorite spot on sixth. Everyone else arrived exactly at 8 o’clock for a special briefing from the boss. He was thankful to be exempt from it due to his low position in the company.
At five it was time to turn-in once more. During the small window of his packing procedure, Sem was intercepted by Indigo.
“Hey, do you have a minute?” Indigo asked.
“No.” Sem delivered in his average tone.
“I figured. But will you talk to me about something? I—“
“I said I don’t have time, we’ll have to continue this never.” Annoyed, but remembering his earlier discussion with Genevieve he relented. “Okay, sorry to bother you.”
Partially expecting as he was walking off to hear beckoning for his return, he glanced back to only see Sem already at the stairwell door. He entered the elevator to return to his coworkers on the twentieth floor.
“Did you invite him?” Vic inquired, it was a courtesy at this point considering he knew the outcome. Last week was a rarity he braced to never transpire again.
“Didn’t get the chance, he was already on his way out.” Indigo answered bleakly.
“Well, it’s Monday, so not the exciting day.” Cezve positively chimed.
“Speaking of that, what’s the plan?” Genevieve asked.
“Uh, Gen, can you help with—with something at my desk?” Indigo stuttered.
“Of course, it won’t be long will it?”
“Not at all, I’m just confused about the new program we’re on.”
“Ahh, yeah it’s annoying as fuck.”The two walked off into his office motioning they’ll be back shortly. Once visually confirmed they were out of earshot Vic asked Cezve, “Do you know if something is going on between those two?”
“I don’t believe so, but anything could’ve happened during the carpool ride over the weekend. They’d be so great for each other.”
She blissfully expressed.
“Hmm,” Vic chuckled and grinned in support. “Yeah I know, we all need some magic in our lives. Especially with this job.”
“Oh please, sexism is still operating in your favor at every turn, you cismale.”
“Yeah, it’s tough being a black woman in such a high position yet still ruled by the white man.” Vic sarcastically rolled his eyes.
“Shut the fuck up.” Cezve chuckled.
“This world would be better if women had the keys to the kingdom.”
While in his office Gen & Indigo made a brief exchange. He simply requested Sémillon’s address. Gen while respecting Sem’s privacy also completely trusted Indigo. With some slight resistance she gave it to him.
“When are you going to see him, if I might ask?” She added.
“I think… this weekend.”
Always talk to people directly rather than behind their back; it’ll work our better for everyone.
