The Sorceress of the Sympheglades
The Vault

Bit short of a chapter, but I figured it made more sense to have this section on its own
"Wake up, sleepyhead~!" Harpago's eyes slowly fluttered open. "Wakin' up... *yawn* Head feels fuzzy..." Celaena gently helped her up. "Not surprised. You were so exhausted from the fight that you passed out, Remember~?" Harpago blinked. "Remember... Yeah, I remember..." She was so tired after killing Phineus... She didn't realize it during the fight... The adrenaline must have worn off all at once... Celaena took her hand. "Come on, let's see what treasure he had~" Harpago nodded and followed. Her head still felt funny...
The treasure in the vault took Harpago's breath away. Not only was there more money, gems, and art than she'd ever seen in one place, whatever rituals Phineus had found had transmuted a few sculptures into pure gold and crystal. She picked up a pure golden eagle, almost entranced. She'd never seen something so valuable... And she knew a buyer that would pay almost ten times its value... This alone was probably worth more than the entire hoard combined for her... She was about to put it in her bag of holding for safekeeping when Celaena walked up. "Oooh, that's lovely~! It almost looks like me, too~! Don't you think I should have it~?" Harpago nodded and handed it to her. "Of course, you should have it." Celaena smiled warmly and continued to search through the rest of the hoard as Harpago stood there blankly. Why did she give it to her? She would have been willing to give up everything else here just to have it... But Celaena Should Have It. Because... Because she was in love with her, obviously! But... Even then, she'd never give that up! But Celaena Should Have It. She was starting to feel so dizzy... Did Celaena do something to her?! She stumbled over, feeling like she had a horrible case of vertigo. "Why... Did you do something to me while I was asleep?" Celaena glanced over, worried. "What do you mean~?" Harpago leaned against a broken sculpture. "I... I never would have given that up... But I... I felt so compelled to-" Celaena sighed, and suddenly sharply flapped her wings. A musical crack echoed throughout the room, and as it faded Harpago found she was unable to move... Or think. "I knew I held back too much with your brainwashing..." She gently caressed Harpago's blank face, an apologetic look on her face. "I'd hoped it'd be enough to hold until we parted ways, but I suppose that was too much to ask... Now help me gather the treasure... Little birdie..."
The mindless body obediently gathered the treasure for her Mistress, nothing but a dull compulsion to please in her head... At first. But as she continued helping her Mistress collect all the pretty treasures, she kept noticing how beautiful she was... The graceful way she moved... Those shimmering golden-red wings... And as she gave her mindless pet a warm smile, her glimmering golden eyes filling their vision, a burst of emotion cracked through. In a weak, distraught whimper, Harpago asked, "...why...?" Celaena's eyes grew wide in surprise at her breaking through. She blushed deeply and averted her gaze. "Just... Fall back asleep, Little birdie..." A wave of blissful darkness washed through Harpago, her eyes almost immediately shutting. Summoning all her willpower, she forced herself not to fall, and forced her eyes to open, just a crack. "Please... Why...?" Celaena turned away, and in a murmur that sounded like a dirge, she admitted, "I was worried... You'd betray me first..." Harpago's eyes grew wide, the shock chasing away the bliss from her mind for a second. "What?! I... Why would you think that?!" Celaena glanced up, still not meeting her gaze. "I... There was so much treasure... And you've been taking so much treasure from the bandits this whole time, and... I... I-If you wanted to... You could kill me so easily... A-And I couldn't fight back... Y-You're so strong..." Her golden eyes glittered with tears. "I-I... I shouldn't have done it... I feel so terrible... I'm sorry..." She unfurled her wings again. "I'm sorry I did this to you... Maybe... Maybe it's for the best if I leave you alone..." She began moving her wings, and Harpago's eyes widened. Just before the flap, Harpago, with all her willpower, yelled out, "I DON'T WANT TO FORGET YOU!"
Celaena's wings stopped mid-flap. A crack sounded, but it was much softer, and Harpago felt her trance weaken slightly. Celaena's eyes were wide and teary. "Wh-what...?" Harpago began to plead, the words spilling from her mouth. "I don't want to forget you! You're the most beautiful, kind, clever, intelligent, wonderful person I've ever worked with, and I never could have gotten up here if it wasn't for you, and I never could have beaten the boss if it wasn't for you, and every second I spent with you on this adventure made me happier and I know it's hard to trust me because I've always been a greedy person but I promise I never wanted to hurt you! You can do anything you want to me, you can enslave me if you need to, you can wipe my memory of everything else and just make me a mindless puppet that can only obey you, but please don't make me forget you! You're more important to me than everything in this vault, even that eagle, and I just want to spend the rest of my life with you! I... I love you Celaena..." She felt so tired as all her feelings finished pouring out, and she began to fall. Something soft and warm caught her, and she felt Celaena embrace her. "...I love you too, Harpago..." The confession sounded more beautiful than the finest music... Harpago smiled softly, and her eyes fluttered shut. She felt Celaena snuggle up to her, and her gentle breathing was like the finest lullaby, sending her into a deep, pleasant trance...
Celaena using her wings as a trigger is partially inspired by AlwaysWatching's 'The First Fallen', which is an excellent story involving wings. I think this website needs more hypnotic wings frankly.
