Delayed Enchantment

It wasn’t hard to sneak into the castle, or find the throne room, or grab the jewels from above the throne… But Cass had admittedly been foolish in assuming that ALL of the elven royal guard would have accompanied their Queen on her ‘mystical pilgrimage’, and one spotted her as she tried to leave. They swiftly surrounded her, and soon she was held tight by one of the guards as they began to discuss what to do with her. Most humans would have immediately surrendered, surrounded by such imposing, and admittedly beautiful, figures. But Cass wasn’t that weak. Before they could perform any ‘magic’ to try and play on her human superstition, she quickly slipped out of her captor's grasp and bolted down the hall. A pretty silver-haired guard tried to cut her down, but the sword missed and just swished past her eyes, although it did almost hit her nose. She had just enough of a headstart to round a corner before they caught up, and she quickly threw down some smokepowder to cover her as she ducked into one of the many rooms along the hallway. Finding herself in an empty bedroom, she quickly rolled under the bed, not daring to breathe until she was sure they’d passed her by.
As the sound of footsteps faded, she carefully exhaled, still wary. The one thing about the elven that she'd learned for certain wasn’t superstition or rumor was that their footsteps were nearly silent when they wanted them to be. It'd be foolish to try and escape immediately, lest they ambush her. She quietly breathed, keeping her nerves calm. All she had to do here was wait, find a window or some other exit, and leave. Easy as anything. Especially for a job everyone else in the guild had been terrified to take on. But then again, they were all scaring themselves with all those superstitions about the Elves. Believing that elves could freeze mortals with a glance, control animals with a thought, see through the blossoms of plants and cracks of stones, turn humans into their pets with their powerful magic… Foolish and shortsighted, all of them. And that’s why she was the only one brave enough to steal the elven Queen's jewels. Once she made it out of the castle, she was going to be rich. That foolish superstition that scared everyone away from this job was going to get her thousands of gold from a wizard or noble who wanted to ‘harness the power of the Elves'. Maybe she could even retire from her thieving ways. Although, she’d really miss the fun if she did. She smiled, replaying her escape in her head. Deftly squirming out of the arms of her captor, pushing off the floor to begin her dash, narrowly dodging the lovely silver-haired guard's glimmering blade… No, she could never give up a life this exciting…
Cass patiently waited, planning out her next move for when an opportunity arose. She couldn’t see much from her angle, unfortunately. She’d been too focused on hiding when she entered the room to look for a window, and vision of the door was blocked by the sheets hanging down the side of the bed. But even assuming there was no window, she was confident in her abilities. She was no elf, but she was still a master thief, and her footsteps could be just as quiet. She knew there were plenty of windows to escape through in the hallways, and even if the silver-haired guard, or any other guard, spotted her she’d be outside the castle before they could sound the alarm. It was easy. She just had to wait. For a while. Alone under the bed with only her thoughts. She stifled a sigh. Waiting was always the most boring part of the heist. At least she could entertain herself by recalling her escape again. Her deft movements, her quick thinking, the silver-haired elf barely missing her, the feeling of her blade as it swished in front of her eyes… She could picture their expression so clearly… Oddly clearly… She’d only gotten a glance of her as she escaped, but it was very easy to picture her… But that didn’t matter, Cass didn’t mind, she wasn’t superstitious. Unlike the other thieves. They’d be quite envious of her once she returned with the jewels. Envious of her ability to escape so effortlessly, despite almost being killed by the silver-haired… And the jewels, Cass reminded herself. She already knew of a potential buyer she could get a small fortune from, but she could try and find an even better offer. Or she could keep them for herself, but she wasn’t a fan of jewelry. She was much more interested in precious metals, gold, silver, silver like the silver-haired- Cass shook her head. She didn’t want to think about that lovely silver-haired guard right now. She… She wanted to think of how good she was at stealing! Effortlessly infiltrating castles, or other heavily protected places, staying in the shadows as she silently pilfered jewelry or other valuables, narrowly avoiding capture despite the swords swishing in front of her eyes, the beautiful glimmering sword, held by the lovely silver-haired guard-
It was becoming very difficult to stay focused on listening for activity, because all Cass could think about was the silver-haired guard. No matter how hard she tried, she just kept picturing her. Fantasizing about her, despite how little she’d seen of her. Standing above her… But she'd never even seen her legs… Her beautiful silver hair glittering… It hadn’t even been that bright in the throne room… A serene smile on her face… Just like the expression she had after she swished her sword before Cass's eyes… Suddenly Cass realized; The silver-haired guard had cast a spell on her. That was the only explanation. It wasn’t superstition, it wasn’t! She had proof! She would never be able to so clearly picture the silver-haired elf moving in such detail, her every movement the pinnacle of grace and elegance, her hair flowing around as if caught in a swirling wind, her sword casting a mesmerizing gleam around her, her very essence exuding an aura of authority, grace, and beauty… She couldn’t picture it that clearly without being enchanted! Breathing deeply, she tried to focus her thoughts on anything else. Her past jobs, her fellow guildmembers, her spoils, her skills… All of it led back to her silver-haired enchantress. She didn’t even realize she was breathing out loud until she heard the door to the room open.
Instantly, Cass froze, becoming completely silent. She let the silver-haired elf dance in her mind as she tried to focus on who entered the room. The footsteps were soft, yet absolutely armored, so it had to be her- one of the guards. She caught a glimpse of their legs, moving with a gentle grace. It had to be her! No, maybe all elves moved gracefully like that. She’d never had a reason to notice before the enchantment had made the soft movements seem so appealing. The guard stopped, and Cass hoped she hadn’t made a sound while fantasizing. Suddenly, a beautiful, melodic voice rang out, like a pleasant breeze, filling her ears and mind. “Come out, little thief! We just want to speak with you!” Cass felt an overwhelming urge to crawl out from under the bed and present herself to the silver-haired guard. They just wanted to speak with her, she would be fine. Such a beautiful and perfect specimen couldn’t- She grabbed her head, trying to stop the thoughts. The idea of giving up, of letting herself be captured… It seemed so wonderful to her enchanted mind… But she couldn’t let that stop her… It almost hurt to stop her body from moving by itself, to prevent herself from leaving the safety of the bed to meet her silver-haired savior. But it wasn’t her anyway! It was another guard! It wasn’t her, she kept telling herself. It wasn’t her, she didn’t need to stop hiding, it wasn’t her, it wasn’t… It… As she looked up, she saw the full body of the guard… Her silver hair swinging softly behind her… All thoughts left her mind, save for one: Submit.
Her body crawled out from under the bed, the guard turning to look down at her. The elf's face almost glowed, and her silver eyes shone brighter than the moon. She smiled, and Cass smiled back. “There you are. I’m glad you’ve finally revealed yourself.” She gently placed her hand on Cass's chin, tilting her head up to meet her gaze. “And I imagine from those wonderfully silver eyes of yours that you’re glad to see me too!” Cass nodded happily, happy that her eyes were the same wonderful color as her silver-haired goddess's. She was lifted to her feet, and she leaned on the elf's soft shoulder. Her silver-haired goddess smiled sweetly at her, gently whispering into her ear. “Don’t worry, you don’t need to be awake for this. You can just Sleep…” The world dissolved into a gentle, dim silver, and Cass felt herself floating down, deep into the silvery sea of bliss.
