This will be my first time writing a story like this, hope you enjoy <3

The ship erupted in chaos as the Affini ship came into range of their vessel. Weapons caused the small frigate to shake slightly with the force as the cannons fired. A call to arms blared as alarms filled the halls and rooms in a shower of red. Even in the medical bay, as a young medic stood over the body of a gunner, his shoulder breaking as the flood of soldiers caused him to fall and get trampled.

“Stand still” The young medic ordered, quickly straightening and setting the shoulder. Wrapping it in gauze as the yell of superiors rang through, even past the chaos. The job was bad, rushed, horrible. It didn’t matter, he’d probably get overzealous shooting the shrub ship and end up returning. “Try not to use your arm much, I’d rather not have you return with a larger fracture.” She’d rather have the gunner in bed, recovering, not doing anything at all. Alas, the ship was slowly running out of bodies that were able to do anything at all.

The sound of heavy boots could be heard beyond the door as it slid open. The gunner muttered a belated “Thank you.” Before rushing to his station before the commander could start berating the young man. His distraction running away from him, the commander quickly looked to his quarry, a face of disdain showing on the clean looking medic. “Field Medic Aveler. You are being reassigned as a gunner. You are to redress and stand ready to fire at those damned weeds in 5 minutes.”

Aveler simply stood, looking down at her utensils and replacing them before another shake would cause the objects to fall on the floor. The sound of the doors opening as alarmed screams fill the ship, gas quickly filling the ship as the affini arrived.

The alarm started for a new day. Lily Aveler’s eyes slowly opened to the sound of bird song. Peaceful bird song, trees rustling, sounds that reminded of old terra as the shape in the pile of sheets groaned. Normally she would be up by now, possibly eating a well cooked meal before work. Today however, was a poor morning. Slowly slipping out of bed and stretching out her weary body, the ex-rebel quickly moved to the kitchen.

“Hab, when is the store supposed to be open?” The sound of a somewhat peppy voice rings in the habitation unit, not as infantile as the floret setting was, yet close to the edge of being obnoxious. “The store is supposed to open in 45 minutes. You are 15 minutes late according to your schedule dear~”.

Lily sighed before pulling out a nutrient gel from the fridge. “Fast food it is.” She mumbled, giggling to herself as she pulled a bottle of juice and some water. The kitchen was human sized, she didn’t bother requesting a kitchen that could accommodate an Affini due to her enjoying making food for others. Even so, the dining room had one of the Affini tables with chairs that helped fit humans at that height. She mumbled under her breath about having to deal with the paperwork of it, while placing the foodstuffs into her bag. She’d have to eat on the go as she hurried to the bathroom.

The bathroom was perhaps one of the few things in the hab unit that she decided to keep more or less the same as an Affini sized hab unit. The vanity being the only thing that was human sized. Something about bathing in a large tub was a luxury she very much appreciated. Quickly brushing her teeth, the young woman looked into the mirror. She had bags under her eyes, which wasn’t surprising as she stayed up late working on orders from clients. Her hair was slightly too long, the ends splitting in the bright shiny pink. Her eyes shining a deep dark purple, anyone who took a closer look would notice how strangely flowerlike the irises were. Her tattoos were plain to see, flowers and plants snaking around her body in a shower of color. Even a few from before she was enlisted showing its more matted and dying colors, a dove of peace holding a syringe.

Deciding to skip the makeup for now, the terran quickly washed her face before returning to her bedroom and dressing. A nice deep forest dress, small vines creeping off the hem of the skirt. A somewhat tight brown vest pressing the top into shape as she brushes her hair down. letting it fall naturally down her chest as she grabbed her bag and the data pad to order a haircut at the local salon, deciding to order some food for when she returns from work, hoping she doesn’t lose track of time and forget to pick it up… again.

Hope you enjoy this story of our strapping protagonist Lily.
