SECOND SKIN
by Noctis
The sky above the city was leaden gray when Lara and Giulia turned onto the narrow side street. There was no particular reason to be there, just chance, or so it seemed. “Look at that,” said Lara, stopping in front of a shop window with the words
“Nocturne – Latex & Fetish wear”</center
Behind the fogged glass, mannequins with unnaturally slender forms wore garments glossy as black glass, with invisible seams and masks covering their entire faces. A barely visible sign read:
“Enter only if you are ready to shed your skin.”
Giulia giggled nervously. “What kind of place is this? It looks like a horror movie lair.”
“Exactly,” Lara winked. “Shall we go in?”
The door let out a metallic creak as it opened. The smell inside was strange, a blend of rubber, incense, and something sweeter, almost narcotic. The shop appeared larger inside than its facade suggested. No staff in sight. Only mirrors, mannequins, and garments hanging like trophies. The lighting was soft, diffused, as if twilight reigned perpetually within.
“It’s all so smooth,” Giulia murmured, brushing her fingers against a seamless black dress. It felt alive beneath her touch.
“Try it on,” Lara suggested, already holding a purple bustier.
They retreated into separate fitting rooms. Silence hung unreal.
The girls tried on one latex garment after another. Lara wore a stiff corset and gloves extending up to her shoulders and Giulia chose an ultra high waist miniskirt and a body-hugging catsuit that looked painted on. Each piece clung to them as if tailored just for their forms.
At first, they laughed nervously then they spoke less. They lingered longer before the mirrors, touched their own bodies slowly, studying themselves as if they’d never truly seen themselves before.
“I can’t shake this feeling of lightness,” Giulia said. “It’s like the latex is holding me together.”
Lara didn’t answer. She was staring at something at the far end of the shop, a full-body suit.
Hanging alone at the back of the store: smoke-gray latex, no visible seams, integrated hood, hands, feet. A thin zipper ran up the spine to the nape of the neck. Beneath it, a handwritten tag: Limited Edition. Lara took it with trembling hands.
“I want to try it on,” she said.
Giulia stared, confused. “Seriously? Isn’t that a bit too much?”
Lara didn’t reply. She vanished into the fitting room. The suit felt cold at first.
She slipped in her legs first, then her torso, then her arms.. The latex tightened around her with unsettling gentleness, like invisible hands caressing, guiding, absorbing her.
When the zipper closed on its own and vanished into the fabric, a shiver ran down her spine.
She slowly opened the fitting room door. Giulia gasped. Lara stood completely covered, wrapped in that smooth, glossy surface reflecting every movement. Only her mouth remained visible. Eyes, ears, skin, all now belonged to the suit.
“How do you feel?” Giulia asked, uncertain.
Lara smiled. “Wonderful,” she said. Her voice sounded different, relaxed, slightly hollow.
“It’s like being silence, pure calm. No fear, no noise.” She stepped forward. “It’s as if my body is finally learning to become what it was always meant to be.”
Giulia swallowed hard and she took a step back. “Lara, I don’t feel right. Maybe we should leave. This place is wrong.”
She stepped toward the exit, but Lara reached her instantly, silent, fluid in her movements. Too fluid....
What will become of Giulia? The answer awaits you in the next chapter
