These chapters shows what would have happened if things had gone just a bit differently....

The Vampire came into the kitchen, hoping for another mug of tea, when they came across the Magician, waiting at the coffee machine. “Well, fancy meeting you here!”

“A surprise indeed,” the Magician purred. “Lovely to see you here,” she said, putting out a hand for a handshake.

The Vampire clasped the Magician’s hand automatically — then froze as the Magician pulled, just slightly. The Vampire’s gaze flicked up to the Magician’s mischievous grin.

“Well, I wasn’t expecting you to be quite that easy. Bit trusting, are we? Bad fit for a game like this.” The Magician’s voice was edged with faux-compassion and just a hint of their soft, soothing hypnotist voice.

The Vampire carefully reclaimed their hand, their pale cheeks flushing. ”Bit unsporting though? Trying something that simple? It’s a good thing you’re not the Imp-”

Sleep,” the Magician said, yanking the Vampire’s shoulder. The Vampire slumped onto the Magician, as she whispered soothing words into their ear. “Just relax, drifting even further — and you like drifting down into trance, don’t you? Yeah, you do.”

“And as you sink further, drift further, fall further, you can just let yourself become another Impostor, ready to bring everyone else under our power…”

A few moments and some suggestions later, the Magician’s voice switched to a hurried whisper, just barely audible to the Vampire over the bubbling of the kettle and the clunking of the coffee machine. “And just coming back up,” she hissed, then snapped as she said, “wide awake.

The Vampire’s eyes blinked as they came back up out of trance. Barely a second later, the Confuser rounded the corner, resplendent in their bright and geometrically-patterned jumpsuit.

“Hello there!” The Magician greeted the Confuser, stepping in front of the Vampire, hiding them for a few extra moments. The Vampire blinked and refocused, hurriedly turning back to their tea. They were an impostor now — it wouldn’t be very fun if they got caught off the bat!

The Vampire cleared their throat, then poked their head around the Magician with a grin. “Come to join us in the cult of caffeine?”

As the Confuser moved towards the kettle, the Vampire surreptitiously opened the app, marking themselves off as an Impostor — fighting to keep a flustered grin off their face, as their fingers moved of their own volition. They’d lost — but now it was time to make everyone else lose too…

The Impostor snuck towards the Trickster. They seemed distracted, standing at the interior balcony that looked over what used to be the factory floor — and the Impostor couldn’t pass up that opportunity. The Impostor crept up behind, holding a pair of headphones at the ready. They’d set up an overloading mix of binaurals and subliminals — combined with the general atmosphere of the day and a dash of surprise, it’d do most of the heavy lifting for them.

The Impostor’s feet trod quietly on the carpet, sneaking through the bedroom, the door safely closed behind them. But then — the Trickster’s phone chimed with the meeting notification. Their head turned as they went to check their phone, then he jumped at seeing the Impostor.

“You!” Then his eyes narrowed and a grin spread across their face. “Well, you’re not getting me that easily.”

The Impostor lunged, still trying to get the headphones on the Trickster’s head. But they were stopped short but the Trickster’s fingers weaving in fascinating, fluid butterfly motions in front of their face. They blinked rapidly, trying to stay focused but being distracted by the Trickster’s hand, their brain occupied by trying to figure out what he was going to do next…

Then the hand was gone, and the Impostor shook their head, shaking themself out of their daze and looking for the Trickster. “Nice try, but no!” the Trickster called out gleefully, and the Impostor’s head snapped around just in time to see them pull the door closed as they escaped.
