Sleepwalker Psychology: An Analysis

By Professor Eric Barns, Criminal Psychology Department Chair, Yale

While still being hands down the most jarring experience of my career, interviewing the mind controlled hench-women of Hypnoman has nevertheless provided a staggering insight into their worldview and how they are motivated to do his bidding. Over the course of this study alongside Doctor Shawn Graham of Engine City University, we have managed to put together a picture of just what has been added to the mind of a Sleepwalker. I must insist on using the word 'added' because in the course of their enslavement, Sleepwalkers have elements of certain psychological profiles added to their pre-existing personality while having their free will dulled.

Firstly, I have to correct a misconception. Sleepwalkers are nothing like the mindless zombies many perceive them to be. On the surface, there is nothing to mark a Sleepwalker from being any different from any other woman. She has her dreams in life, a circle of friends, loved ones, hobbies and anxieties. They work a variety of jobs and most of them can be called quite pleasant to be around.

However, all that they are is put aside when they are given a chance to advance their master's agenda. Whether or not their ‘normal’ self would be horrified by what they intend to do means nothing. Only the mission matters. They will acquire their chosen target by deception, seduction, or outright kidnapping. Two of them have even confessed to using date rape drugs.

One of the first psychological elements 'transplanted' into a Sleepwalker after being hypnotized is essentially a cultist mentality. Regardless of her normal temperament she views Hypnoman as being a prophetic figure whose dictates are beyond question, superseding even their most deeply held convictions. One Sleepwalker, by all means a proud Muslim, stated that she had no issue with violating her faith's dietary laws and drinking to the point of unconsciousness if Hypnoman commanded it. Another Sleepwalker, a staunch Catholic, told us that she’d take up prostitution in a heartbeat if ordered to turn tricks. “Hypnoman’s will is absolute,” she told us. They do not see Hypnoman as a divine figure, though. They are fully aware of his mortality.

The second of the two elements ‘transplanted’ into the mind of a Sleepwalker is something akin to the psychopath’s lack of a conscience and near total confidence in what they do. In carrying out their orders, Sleepwalkers will not allow anything to deter them unless circumstances are so extreme that they are forced to back off. Even then, they will never truly relent. They will analyze their failures, evaluate their strategy, and adapt.

A Sleepwalker is absolutely shameless in doing whatever Hypnoman commands of them. She is fully aware of what she has done and takes pride in it. Doctor Graham and I have spoken to more than a few of them who were otherwise cripplingly shy. These girls have all shown blatant delight in what they have done to female acquaintances, friends, even their own sisters and mothers. We had asked multiple times if they were aware that they had robbed women close to them of their freedom and they knew exactly what they’d done. Some of the ones we know of to be lesbian had no guilt over enslaving their romantic partners.

Curiously, lesbian and bisexual Sleepwalkers seem to possess a more combative outlook on their master’s plans than his other slave girls. I do not know if this is the result of Hypnoman’s direct influence or that of ‘higher ups’ in the community that have fallen under his control, but Sleepwalkers of the ‘Sleeping Sapphist’ subtype see their struggle for equality and Hypnoman’s goals as going hand in hand. They truly believe that Hypnoman’s rule over Engine City will make it a much more hospitable place for women like them. As such, they see themselves as part of an army and embrace a militaristic discipline.
