Forging Bonds

First time posting here, let me know if formatting is screwed up or anything like that. You can find all my stuff on AO3 as well.
Dona Peters’ hands shook as she poured a glowing blue concoction into a small glass vial. When she finally topped it off, she let out a sigh of relief. Potions, especially those that affected the mind, were extremely finicky. She’d run every possible test, thrown out every batch that was less than perfect, until she’d nearly run up against her deadline. This time, though, everything had come out just right. The look, the smell, the viscosity, everything was exactly as her grandmama’s books had described it. Held delicately within her hands was a potent dose of Amoretice, a love potion whose existence was a well-kept secret within wixen families.
As she began cleaning up her makeshift potion lab, she took occasional glances towards the glowing potion. In spite of the week of near-constant effort she’d put into making the potion, she still had second thoughts. Would she really resort to a love potion to secure her perfect match? Just because her best friend Willow was…
Yes. Dona recalled the innate closeness between them, that instant bond that had seemed to form the first time they locked eyes from across the dining hall, the way everything in her life seemed to click together when Willow sat down with an awkward loner like her and that smooth, sweet voice coaxed her out of her shell. The way they met in that same hall, day after day, Dona hopelessly drawn into Willow's orbit. This love potion was just a reaffirmation, a reinforcement of the bond between their two souls. There was nobody else for her, and the capricious forces of love and sexuality would just have to be bent to her will.
She’d already debated with herself for months, ever since she’d first laid eyes on the potion recipe and begun to imagine the future she– no, they could craft with it. She probably would have kept on debating right up until graduation, the possibility of her and Willow going their separate ways finally forcing her hand. Then Dona had accidentally overheard Willow’s voice one night, its usual sweetness obscured by an anxious fragility. Dona almost went to instinctively cuddle and soothe her, but stopped in her tracks when Willow spoke of finally confessing by the end of the week. For just a moment, Dona’s heart cracked as visions of their future together crumbled to dust. No more Willow to guide her through social situations, to lift her up from her darkest moments, to smile and compliment her on her meals made with such intense, imperfect love. But then her mind had returned to the potion, the long list of ingredients that Dona had read over so many times she now knew them by heart. One drop. One sip. Imperfect love, made perfect.
Dona shook her head. She had long since finished cleaning up and had begun pacing back and forth across her room, lost in thought. There was no time for second-guessing. Today was D-Day, the day Willow would confess whether Dona was ready or not. Slipping the small vial into her jean pocket, she stepped out into the living room and began preparing for the arrival of her best friend, her roommate, maybe soon her everything. They would follow their normal evening routine. Willow would collapse on the couch, tired from a long day of classes and work. Dona would bring over a snack and some drinks to share. She would take a sip of her drink and, as the Amoretice slid down her throat and their eyes met, love would strike true. There would be a confession, but one that would bind them together rather than tear them apart.
All too quickly, everything was ready– a platter of healthy snacks and two glasses of water, one with a blue glow so faint one would think it was a trick of the eye. Dona was left with nothing to do and the worst company to do nothing with– her own mind. Was she, socially incompetent, average looking, bundle of undiagnosed disorders, platonic form of burnout gifted kid syndrome really worthy of standing with someone like Willow? No matter how many times Willow pulled her up from her self-loathing, told her she enjoyed spending time with her, held her close and told her that she was worthy of love, Dona’s doubts always found a way to creep back in. Using the potion, binding herself to Willow– what if she just dragged Willow down with her?
Dona, once again beset by doubts, stared down at the faintly glowing glass before her. She could still pour it down the drain, let their loving future dissipate into nothingness. Before she could do anything, she heard a door open and the distinctive sing-song greeting of her best friend.
“Honey, I’m hoooome!” A joke, something Willow always said that– before now– may have never had any bearing on reality. Dona swallowed her nerves, feeling them settle like a rock wedged inside her ribcage, and carefully picked up the food and drinks. Holding the platter in one arm and using the other to hold the drinks against her chest, she carefully maneuvered her way out of the kitchen and into their shared living room. She set down each with shaky hands, sucking in a sharp breath when a bit of potioned water almost spilled over the lip of its glass. Everything set, she collapsed onto the couch next to Willow.
“Long day, huh?” Dona felt a nudge in her side and turned her head to face her roommate. Willow looked exhausted, tawny hair up in a loose bun and rounded cheeks ruddy with exertion. The green eyes behind her thick rounded glasses, though, held the same enduring care that always soothed Dona’s nerves.
“Yea. I uh,” Dona fished around for something to say, knowing her social ineptitude usually included lying. “I uh… Yea.” She finished lamely, picking up her glass of water and cradling it in her hands. She looked down at the water’s glinting surface, averting her eyes from Willow’s concerned stare. An awkward moment of silence passed.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Willow asked, putting a comforting hand on Dona’s thigh.
“no.” Dona choked out, barely more than a whisper. Willow gave her thigh a light squeeze but let silence once again settle over the room. Just one more thing Dona loved about her, in her own way. Dona focused on her slow breathing and on the soft pressure of Willow’s hand against her leg, slowly untangling her lingering anxiety. She spared a glance around the room. She hadn’t accidentally switched the cups, she hadn’t spilled anything, she hadn’t done anything to suddenly make Willow realize how much of a failure she was… Things are okay. Things are okay. Maybe even better than okay soon. Things are okay…
With another deep breath, Dona managed a wobbly smile at the woman sitting next to her. “Just one of those days, y’know?”
Willow smiled softly, “You can go take some alone time, go to bed early if you want. I… I won’t mind.”
If Dona hadn’t known beforehand how important today was for Willow, how it was her deadline to confess, maybe she would have believed her comforting words. Instead, she did her best to maintain her increasingly rigid smile as she responded, “No. I love– I love to spend time with you, ‘low.” Dona slid her thumbs along the bottom of her cup, nerves running up her spine as she felt the cool condensation wet her skin. “How was work?”
That little question was enough for Willow, who launched into a story about the daily travails of a minimum-wage fast-food burrito maker. Even though Dona had heard a variant every other day since Willow picked up the job, it never got old. The fire in Willow’s eyes, the way her pale freckled arms waved around, the way her voice projected such a presence that she always dominated any room she was in despite her short, pudgy stature. As Dona watched on, her nerves began to fade away. She could almost forget how their relationship would change tonight, for good or ill, and just focus on basking in Willow’s warm presence.
Eventually Willow’s tale came to a close, however, and silence once again fell over the pair. Dona looked up to watch Willow, who was staring blankly at the glass of water on the table. Willow opened her mouth, but no sounds came out. The silence became charged– for once it wasn’t Dona who struggled to speak. Dona felt the anxiety nestled in her chest flare up again as her grip tightened around her own cup.
“I… Have something important to tell you.” Willow spoke, her voice tinged with uncharacteristic hesitance. She turned her eyes to meet Dona’s, soft green eyes glistening and cheeks blooming red. She suddenly jolted and reached up to adjust her glasses, a rare nervous tick. “Not anything bad. And however you react, I’ll… I’ll still be your best friend, okay? No matter what.”
Dona nodded and tried to gulp, but her mouth was dry. so dry. She knew with near certainty what was coming, but she needed Willow to say it. Her sudden nerves, the way her cheeks flushed and she struggled to maintain eye-contact. It all pointed to one inevitable conclusion, one possible outcome Dona could pin her hopes to. She quickly glanced at Willow’s cup, then at her own. Everything was coming together perfectly, she just needed Willow to speak it into reality and Dona would know for certain.
“I…”
Dona unconsciously leaned in, eyes wide.
“I…”
Dona licked her chapped lips. dry so dry so dry
“I’m in love with you!” Willow forced out, overcoming her nerves and sending shockwaves through Dona’s nervous system.
Even if she had expected it, it was something else entirely when spoken aloud. It was something almost tangible, the confession hanging between them. Dona’s response was stuck in her throat, so dry, she couldn’t– couldn’t– couldn’t… Her heart, her love, her throat, it was all so dry. She knew what she needed to do, what she’d planned to do exactly one week ago. She closed her eyes and lifted her glass to her mouth, letting the faintly glowing liquid caress her dry throat. Her dry heart. Her dry love.
When Dona opened her eyes, she took in Willow all anew. She knew from the moment she first laid eyes on Willow that she was cute. But, however much she turned it over in her head, she hadn’t been able to summon up more than a platonic adoration for her best friend’s appearances. Now though, every single little feature endeared her all the more strongly. The way her loose dirt-blonde hair messily framed her face, her cute little nose and her soft red lips. The constellation of freckles that ran from her cheeks down across her entire body, each star on the pale-white canvas suddenly more kissable than the last. How plump and warm her body was, how that soft flesh would feel pressed against her… How plump and warm her breasts in particular now, Dona finally understanding with absolute clarity why one might want to suckle and nip at their milky flesh.
Every memory, every little tidbit Dona once filed away as something to admire about her best friend came bursting forth, invigorated by Dona’s new perspective. She was just– so cute, so perfect, so wonderful. Every moment, the new image of Willow grew stronger and stronger in her head. She was– not just a soulmate– a goddess. The night sky itself hewn out and given flesh, sent down and somehow enamored by a lowly mortal like her.
Dona stared into Willow’s eyes. Floating in those lush greens were flickers of confusion, of doubt, of hurt. Her face began to tense, as though expecting Dona to reject her at any moment. Never. Dona had already reshaped her destiny. Their destiny. Now all she had to do was close the tense gap between them and…
Dona lunged forward, tilting Willow’s head back as she pulled her into a deep kiss. It was everything Dona hadn’t even known to dream of until just moments before, but which would grace her dreams for every night from then on. The heat between them, the way Willow cushioned her, the way Willow gasped and moaned under her touch. Hers! She was the one giving her best friend, her beloved, that joy; she was giving herself body, mind, and soul and being received warmly, openly.
Eventually, Dona forced herself to pull away, resting her forehead against Willow’s own as they leaned against the edge of their couch. “I…” She panted, catching her breath. Her eyes caught on a trail of spittle on Willow’s chin– their fluids, their very beings, intertwined. “I love you too.”
Dona could still feel the potion inside her, a warm hum coursing through her body and driving her forward. She stared into Willow’s eyes, watching for even the slightest bit of hesitancy as she slowly unbuttoned Willow’s shirt. Soon enough, the only barrier between her and seeing Willow’s plush, perfect breasts in all their glory was a plain white bra. With one final glance for permission, she moved down the couch until she rested at eye level with the breasts. Carefully, with shaking hands, she reached under while Willow arched her back to give easy access to her bra strap. After a few awkward attempts, the strap came undone and Dona finally laid lovestruck eyes upon her goddess’s bare breasts.
Dona was in awe. She had seen glimpses of Willow’s breasts before, but now she’d plucked the scales from her own eyes and saw them in a whole new light. The way the breasts molded into her curves, the way the freckles seemed to form a subtle spiral drawing the eye to the stiff nipples at their center… Dona wanted to lose herself forever in the sight. Slowly, she leaned down and took a tentative lick at the very tip. She felt a wave of satisfaction as Willow shivered under her and leaned down further to wrap her lips around the nipple. As she gave more tentative licks and nibbles along the nipple and the milky skin around it, she lowered herself down onto Willow until her other hand was freed to move on its own.
She had only a vague sense of what she was supposed to do to elicit more pleasured moans from her beloved, but even still she plowed on to move her free hand down to rest against Willow’s crotch. She pressed in and slowly rubbed circles into Willow’s jeans and, when her ears were blessed with a sharp intake of breath from her other half, she moved up and slid her hand right under the waistline and through the untamed bush of Willow’s pussy. The sticky wetness that greeted her invading fingers sent another pulse of satisfaction through her as she thought of the pleasure she was giving to her Willow. Slowly, uncertain of how to apply her own masturbation habits to fingering another woman, she slid a finger into Willow’s wet folds and flicked it around, searching for results. Her rough, clumsy treatment sent Willow squirming under her as she continued with much more success to lavish attention on her ample breasts. Eventually, Willow let out a sharp gasp and Dona stopped cold, replaying the moment in her mind and attempting to replicate the finger motion that drove the response. Soon enough, she was rhythmically pumping Willow with her finger and drawing increasingly frantic gasps from her beloved.
Finally, as Dona lost herself in the pillowy heaven of Willow’s breasts, Willow arched her back and shuttered. Fluid began to spill over Dona’s hand as Willow gasped out in orgasmic bliss, her usually clear voice sent ragged from Dona’s worship. When she finally settled, Dona slowly withdrew her hand and raised it up to her head, resting on one of Willow’s breasts. She stared at her glistening fingers, the symbol of a job well done, in awe. She flicked her tongue across the tip of her pointer finger and, when the subtle saltiness danced across her taste buds, she found herself licking across the full length of her hand to pick up any drop of her reward.
A stunned, joyous laugh rang out and she looked up at the face of her roommate, best friend, lover and goddess. Willow, hair tousled and chin soaked with dry spit, gave her a brilliant smile.
“I… phew, I thought you were straight!”
Dona couldn’t help but smile, reflecting on everything she’d done to get to this moment. “For you, Willow… I’m anything.”
Wanted to try my hand at writing a love potion lesbification story, but where the twist is it's someone using it on themself rather than on someone else. Hopefully that landed well.
