As a first-year, Zoe was struggling to adapt to the specific environment of Arcana Academy. Before that year she'd never met another mage, and it turned out making friends with them was as hard as it was with regular people. She was closest to her roommate Clementine, but the girl consistently showed more interest in her studies than in hanging out. 

Zoe should too, but when two second-year girls sat next to her in Hypnosis class and included her in their outrageous chats, she quickly forgot all about studying. 

"No, you don't understand." One of them, Lilith, leaned closer to her complicitly. "Living with Sami is *hell*. Like, every morning I look over and its like there's a tent on her bed-"

"Bitch- I can't control that." Sami protested, but she didn't seem to really mind. 

"You're a pervert." Lilith responded. "Why are you always hard?"

Clementine, who had been sitting next to her but moved a little away when the two girls came, looked up from her book with a shocked expression. But Zoe just laughed- she'd laugh at anything, just happy to be included. 

Sami pouted at her. "Can you believe I'm being judged just because my body is different?"

"Lilith, come on." Zoe laughed, making the girl roll her eyes. 

"How about this- I'll trade her for Clem."

Clementine shuffled a little further away. She was just a little shy. 

"Zoe we would have so much fun together." Sami quipped. 

"Fucking pervert."

"... You're the one who keeps talking about my huge cock?"

Lilith looked at Zoe. "It's not huge."

"It is."

"It's not."

"So you looked??"

... Zoe didn't pay much attention to class. Like, at worst she'd take Hypnosis second year, like Sami and Lilith did. She was too entertained by them, even if mostly they talked about sex. 

"Well, anyways, Zoe." Lilith had an elbow on the table and leaned her chin on her hand. The professor was explaining an hypnotic gaze technique, but the three of them completely ignored him. "What's your deal? Like, do you have a boyfriend or something?"

"Oh!" She blinked. With the first question she thought they'd ask about where she came from, which was what most mages cared about when it came to her. "No, no... I mean I..." 

"You like girls?"

"No- no, I... I don't know, I guess." She was messing up, but Lilith just looked at her patiently and Sami was smiling. "I never really dated... anyone..."

Was that lame? Lilith sighed. 

"Yeah, me neither. No one's interesting enough." She said and Zoe couldn't tell if she was joking or not. 

"You two aren't dating?" She asked. They were both horrified. 

"I'd rather die."

"I'd rather kill her."

"Woah, what the fuck?"

Zoe laughed and they both turned to her, smiling. 

"You're really cute." Lilith said, and Sami nodded. 

"You could have any guy or girl you wanted, yeah."

Zoe blinked. "Oh, thanks." She paused. "I don't think so, though..."

"Hell yeah you could! And you're also really smart, right?"

"Uh..." She was good at magic, maybe, even if she hated studying. "A little?"

"I mean you got into this school." Lilith said. Zoe laughed a bit awkwardly. 

"You both did too." She tried to deflect.

Sami shook her head. "But my dad invented a spell."

"Yeah and my parents are rich." Lilith added. 

"Yeah her parents are rich pieces of shit." 

"Yeah." Lilith repeated. 

"But..." Zoe started but she didn't know what to say. She was a little stunned. "Uhm, well." 

Lilith patted her shoulder. "Yeah, sorry, we obviously know about you."

"Oh."

"I mean everyone knows." Sami patted her other shoulder. 

"Yeah but everyone who cares is a dumbass. We don't care, obviously. If anything it makes it more impressive you're here."

"Right, like fuck 'em." Sami agreed and Zoe started to smile again.

"Thank you." She said a little pathetically but, like, at least they were direct about it. Clementine also said she didn't care that her parents were common blood, but she was just so awkward about it...

"So like I said, you could get anyone you wanted. You're pretty, smart, funny..." Funny? "... cute tits too."

Zoe blushed and laughed at the same time. "Oh, thanks?"

"Yeah and she calls me the pervert." Sami nudged her. "But I agree, they're really cute."

Zoe laughed a little more tense and sat upright, self-conscious. The girls paused for a moment. 

"You wanna hang out later?" Lilith asked her. Zoe blinked. 

"Uh, sure." She turned to glance at Clementine but she had slowly gotten way further than before. 

"The three of us." Lilith clarified. 

"Oh, okay." 

"Like no offense but Clem seems a little boring."

Zoe laughed a bit. She hoped Clementine didn't hear.

They went out for lunch and for the first time in months Zoe had fun. It was so nice, she barely felt the need to say anything since Lilith and Sami didn't leave much silence between them. Aside from a few more comments on her body, she was just happy to hear them and laugh along. 

When it was time for Lilith's runic enchantment class their conversation finally turned to something a little more serious. 

"Zoe, by the way, you got a hypnosis partner yet?"

"Oh." She answered. She hoped it wasn't too obvious, but she had the habit to responding 'oh' to give herself more time to think of an answer. "Uhm, I'm not sure I'm going to... I mean, the exams will just be on animals so I was thinking on just picking a bird from the aviarium." She liked birds. 

Lilith shook her head. "No, no, that's just for the lowest mark."

"Right, if you want a good score you need to do it on a human." Sami added. 

"Yeah but, isn't that like..." She hesitated. "Like a moral issue? In Ethics class-"

"In second year they tell you to forget Ethics class, by the way." Lilith said. Zoe went wide-eyed.

"Oh."

"And that's why you get a partner anyways. Like, you can practice on each other. Makes it even."

Zoe heard most students did that, but she also heard it didn't often work out. Got some people expelled. "Are you two doing it?"

"Together? No, I mean, we were partners last year."

"We failed." Sami laughed. "We could've passed I guess, but we tried to do the exam on each other- well it was Lilith's fault."

Lilith huffed. "Shut up."

"It was."

"Zoe do you want to be our partner this year?"

"Uh?" She blinked. She was thinking she could ask Clementine if absolute necesary- she was pretty sure she could trust her, with how much she cared about grades. "What?"

"Well we did have some trouble last time." Sami explained. 

"I don't want this pervert to hypnotize me again." Lilith sighed and Sami rolled her eyes. "I mean if its three of us it's going to be so much better. Two just doesn't work well at all."

"Yeah if there's a third person to keep things normal..." Sami continued. "... I mean Lilith made me do some weird shit."

"No I didn't." 

"She made me sniff her socks, she's into that shit."

"That never happened by the way, probably was a wet dream of yours."

"No, I swear it happened-"

"Uhm, sorry..." Zoe spoke up. "I think I'll just get a bird." She said. "Sorry."

She hoped they wouldn't be mad. Like, they were nice, but she only knew them for a couple hours? There wasn't really anyone she'd fully trust to hypnotize her anyways...

"Don't worry." Sami sighed. "We'll just make do." Zoe sighed in relief. 

"No, wait, Zoe, please." Lilith insisted and she felt her anxiety spike up again. "If you don't want either of us to do it to you, you can just watch and practice on us." She suggested. "I mean we can take turns and all get practice and, fuck, if we have to we'll take advantage of Sami, it's fine..."

"Right... I'll sacrifice myself, I guess." Sami agreed. 

"... are you sure?" Zoe hesitated. Well she didn't have any reason to refuse, but... "That doesn't seem fair."

"You'd be doing us a massive favor." Lilith disagreed. "As long as you keep Sami in line I'll be happy."

"Zoe please don't let her make me sniff her socks again." Sami begged. Lilith pushed her. 

Zoe really didn't have a reason to refuse. "... Sure. Why not."

The way Lilith smiled made her feel better about it.

They agreed to practising that same night, at Lilith and Sami's room of course, and Zoe spent the rest of the day nervous and excited. 

Unfortunately she didn't know much about hypnosis, a little detail she omitted earlier. With not really much in terms of formal education, what she did know was limited to the spells that came natural to her. 

She took a book on basic hypnosis and after reading through it the entire afternoon, she was at their door holding it with sweaty hands. 

Lilith opened. "Zoe! Come in." She smiled, happy to see her, and Zoe laughed as most of her nerves disappeared. 

She looked everywhere when she entered the room, well she was trying to be normal about it, but she was curious. Theirs was bigger than hers and Clementine's room, much more lived-in, with practice runes scrawled over the walls, shelves full of books, a cute little summoning circle on the corner and, honestly unsurprisingly, a bit of a mess overall. 

Lilith's bed was red and black, Sami had the more standard white sheets. They were both sitting on Lilith's. 

"Hi Zoe." Sami stretched. "Oh, you brought a book."

"Oh!" She looked at it. "Yeah it's basic, but uhm I think it's pretty useful-" 

"That's adorable. It's like a kid's book." Lilith laughed. 

Zoe hesitated and checked the cover again. 

"Don't listen to her, I mean, obviously you have to start somewhere." Sami said. 

"I didn't mean it like that, Zoe... sit, I'll get the one we are using."

Embarrased, Zoe sat on the bed and left the tome she got behind her. In hindsight, the language it used seemed suspiciously simple.

She thought it was fucked up to teach kids how to enthrall people, but what did she know, after all. 

"It's this one." Lilith retrieved a thick book out of the overcrowded shelves. It looked ancient.

"She stole her from her parents, you know?" Sami commented as Lilith stepped on the bed between them, twirled and sat on the middle. 

"I just took it from the library at home, big deal." She turned the pages and Zoe noticed the strange font- she wasn't sure she could even read that. "Okay we should start with this one. It's like a happy one."

"... The hell does that mean." 

"Like you hypnotize someone to make them happy, I guess." Lilith explained. That didn't sound so bad. 

"I'm already pretty happy though."

"You shouldn't, you suck." Lilith glared at Sami and then turned at Zoe with a smile. "Zoe you wanna start?"

"Uhhhhh..." 

"It's easy, here." Lilith basically planted the book on her lap. "You'll be fine, just follow the instructions." 

"No, no-" She protested. "I don't wanna mess up."

"You won't."

"But if you do, nothing of value will be lost." Sami patted Lilith's head, who slowly turned to glare in return, her smile frozen into something sinister. 

"Sami if you touch me again I'll murder you." She promised. "Anyways, Zoe, you can start with me if you want." 

"Wait I..." She hesitated. 

"Yeah?"

"I thought I'd watch you two do it first?"

"I mean, you... need to get practice in." Lilith said slowly. 

"Yeah like... if that was the book you picked..." 

Zoe felt embarrased again. "Uhm- Sure, I'll start then." They both looked at her. "Uhm, with Lilith."

Lilith shifted in her bed and turned to face her directly. Zoe blinked stunned at seeing the older girl look into her eyes expectantly. She snapped herself out of it and started reading the book. 

As she feared the font was hard to read, but it was still written in Common, even if the language was a little strange. She read the instructions closely a couple times, then looked up at Lilith's brown eyes. She was so nervous. 

Still, without breaking eye contact, she managed to repeat the words exactly as written, and transmit her will through her gaze like all hypnotic spells required...

... a bird would have fallen into her thrall easily. But she messed it up, of course. 

Still, Lilith's shoulders dropped, her eyes softened and in her lips started to spread a dreamy smile. 

"Oh, wow, you did it." Sami commented casually. Zoe glanced at her, nearly panicking. 

"Uh what?" She asked. "I didn't do it well."

"Yeah I mean, I guess she didn't resist at all." Sami explained, looking at Lilith. "We learned that is much easier to hypnotize you if you just chill you know? She's going a little easy on you."

Oh. Zoe looked back at Lilith. Lilith was looking at her hands with the same dopey smile. Sami laughed. 

"Gods, she looks so stupid."

Zoe also laughed a little. She cleared her throat. 

"Uhm, now what?" 

"Uh? I mean what does the book say?"

Zoe scrambled to read the rest of the spell. "It says... the subject will remain happy and... compliant until the spell is lifted."

"How happy?" 

"... doesn't say." 

Sami hummed and turned to Lilith. She raised a hand and Zoe flinched as Sami slapped Lilith hard in the face. 

Lilith's expression didn't change, despite how her head moved from the blow and a red mark flowered on her cheek. 

"Aww, pretty happy I'd say." Sami laughed. Zoe, wide-eyed, stared at her.

"That... don't do that." She said, more uncertain than she should. 

"Oh, right." Sami closed her hand and put it between her legs like a dangerous weapon. "See? That's why you're here."

Zoe didn't know what to say to that. "Uhm, Lilith... you're okay?"

Lilith slowly lifted her head to look at her. 

"Zooo..." She giggled. Sami laughed again. 

"Her name is Zoe, dumbass." 

"Can I lift the spell now?" Zoe asked.

"Well- it's okay if you don't wanna slap her but you should test the spell's limits. Give her the opportunity to break out of it. And you shouldn't need to lift it unless you're like, the best at magic ever."

"Right."

"Like if you lift it you're basically saying she can't break out on her own."

"Right..."

"And that she isn't shit."

"... right."

"You gonna slap her?"

"No, no..." Zoe looked at the hypnotized girl. "Uhm, I don't know what to do-"

"Whatever you want."

She hesitated. 

"We should've established some rules." She muttered. 

"Oh. Yeah, you're probably right." Sami said completely unconcerned. "Well, for next time. But I mean, she won't remember much anyways."

Zoe stared at Lilith for a couple more seconds, then turned to Sami, frowning. 

"What?"

"Yeah, she won't remember much."

"But- I-" What was she implying there?? "I don't want to... cross a line."

"Zoe stop worrying so much!" Sami laughed. "I told you! Lilith made me do some weird shit last year, like, I swear she grabbed one of her panties and made me hold it in my mouth until I broke out!"

"W-what?" Zoe laughed nervously, she didn't know how else to respond. 

"Yeah, I swear! I think she'll even be upset if you don't push her at all."

Zoe glanced at Lilith, who was still happily tweedling her fingers, and she took a deep breath. 

"Uhm, Lilith." She said slowly. Lilith looked at her. "Can you... clap your hands?"

Lilith clapped her hands twice with a wide smile. Sami groaned. Zoe huffed- it was hard to think of things. 

"Lilith uhm, can you uh, lick your palm?"

The girl happily did so, giving her own hand a big lick, and Zoe glanced at Sami and deflated when she saw her bored. 

"Lilith can you sing?"

She could, just not very well. That at least made Sami snicker. 

"Lilith can you bark? Lilith can you meow?"

She did all of it as happy as she got. 

"This won't really embarrass her, y'know?" Sami said after Lilith meowed cutely a couple times. "You need to make her do something that she'll actually want to resist."

"Like what??" Zoe was out of ideas. 

"I don't know, tell her to take her clothes off or something." 

Zoe frowned slightly at her, perhaps Sami was a pervert after all. 

"Lilith." She called. "Tell us... tell us a secret." 

Lilith took a deep breath. "Oh uhm... I really want to touch Zooo's tits." 

"Well that's not really a secret..." Sami mused, uninterested, while Zoe turned bright red. 

"O-okay, that's..." She cleared her throat. "Lilith, try to break free from the spell."

Lilith blinked. Her smile instantly disappeared and the cloud in her eyes was gone. Zoe gawked. 

Sami was also impressed. "Okay I guess that was smart, but like... it's cheating." 

Lilith looked at both of them and perhaps noticed how red Zoe was now, because she frowned. 

"What did you make me do, Zoe?"

"Nothing!" She almost yelled. She sounded so guilty for some reason!

"No, really, nothing interesting, Lilith." Sami sighed. Zoe breathed out in relief. "Highlight was you meowing and barking."

Zoe felt betrayed. "No, I-" But Lilith did seem disappointed. 

"Oh, that was it?"

"Yep."

"Zoe..." Lilith shook her head. At her downfounded expression the two older girls laughed. "Gods, you're cute."

"You wanna do me now?" Sami offered.

"Uh?"

"She meant hypnotize her." Lilith clarified and Sami snorted. 

"No, no, no..." Zoe held her hands up. "I... I'm fine." 

"Okay but that was nothing, y'know? I basically let you do me, in a real situation I would've resisted." Lilith said and Sami snorted again. 

"I'm fine, really." Zoe insisted- she wasn't sure what real situation would require her to hypnotize someone.

But Sami insisted too. "Come on! I'm gonna feel left out." She pouted. Zoe hesitated, but, well, if Sami actively wanted it...

"I- okay, but..." She shook her head. "We need to establish some rules." She repeated herself.

"Sure, Zoe." Lilith agreed. "Next time you can come with a list."

Next time, right. Sami was looking at her, waiting. 

Zoe scrambled to read the spell again. 

This time she did it better, but looking straight at Sami's green eyes while she recited the words felt weird, more because Sami had a bit of a smirk. But when she finished the spell, that smirk slowly turned into a lax, drunken smile. 

"Zoe-you're-so-cute-" Sami giggled while she threw herself at her direction...

Zoe yelped when Sami's head landed on her lap and the girl moved her arms around her waist, hugging her. Laughing, Sami buried her face between Zoe's legs- who, panicked, stared between her and the open book on the bed. 

"Uh..." She started, looking over at Lilith, who had an eyebrow lifted. "You didn't do this." Zoe said shortly, trying to figure what went wrong.

"Ah. Well, you know you can tell her to stop, right?"

"Sami stop!" 

Sami froze. But she didn't move away. 

"You have to be specific." Lilith said.

"Uh, Sami, stop, uhm-- just sit back where you were."

With a giggle Sami obeyed. Zoe, helpless, looked over at Lilith, who just shrugged.

"Hey, you know, hypnosis isn't runic enchantment, it's not a science. There's always little quirks."

"... Okay."

"By the way just so you know, Sami is a bit of a freak and she won't break out of it unless you make her do some truly heinous shit."

Zoe stared at Lilith for ten full seconds. 

"... You couldn't have said that before?"

"It was kinda obvious."

Zoe let her face fall to her hands and groaned. She heard Sami's pouty voice say "Aw, Zoe don't be sad..."

"Is it... is it true you made her hold your... panties in her mouth?" She asked. It was weird to speak like Sami wasn't there, but in a way she really wasn't...

"Oh she told you that?" Lilith glared at the hypnotized Sami. "I bet she didn't tell you she was rock-hard for the entire two hours." Zoe, despite her best efforts, glanced at Sami's crotch. "Ugh, by the way, did she slap me or something?" Now Zoe looked back at Lilith, who was wincing and rubbing her reddened cheek. 

"Um... yeah..."

"What a bitch!" Huffing, Lilith climbed off the wall and headed to the bathroom. "If you don't fuck her up, later I will."

"Wait, Lilith..." But the girl slammed the door before she could finish. 

Zoe slowly turned back towards Sami. The whole point was with three of them, they could keep each other in check, right? Did they really trust her that much?

She didn't trust herself! Everything she could think of was either way too far or not nearly far enough. She looked into Sami's entranced eyes. 

"Uh, Sami..." She hesitated. 

Sami leaned closer to her. "Yes, Zoe?"

"Uhm. What's something you... really don't want to do?"

"... Die?"

"No, well, I guess, but-" She cleared her throat. "Something you'll resist doing while you're uh, hypnotized."

"I'm not hypnotized." Sami giggled. 

"... okay, but, if you were."

Sami hummed. "Well... I'd resist jumping off a bridge."

That wasn't working. Zoe stared at the bathroom's door wistfully, begging for help. There was running water and Lilith cursing on the other side. Maybe she'd just have to do the same she did with Lilith, cheating as it were.

"Hm, I'd also resist..." Sami continued. "Telling you about Nomi." 

Zoe frowned. "What's Nomi?" 

Sami opened her mouth, smirking... then completely froze. 

Lilith opened the bathroom door. "What the fuck is wrong with this girl?" She said, still fuming. 

"Lilith shut up-" Sami answered- she had blinked the spell away. "- wait, Zoe, what happened? The hell you made me do?"

"Woah, you made her break it already?" Lilith laughed. Zoe looked between the two of them. 

"I didn't do anything." She squealed. The two older girls laughed at the same time. 

"Fuck, I just missed it." Lilith said as she sat back on the bed. "What was it?" 

"It had to be something insane, like..." Sami shook her head in disbelief. 

"Like she made you suck yourself off or something?"

"No, no, I would've been okay with that."

"Ew- wait, you can reach??" 

"No I tried, but- you know that portal spell?"

"No way, you're gross."

"It was so weird, I only did it once, but-" 

"What's Nomi?" Zoe blurted out. 

The two girls stopped talking to look at her. Neither were smiling anymore. Zoe shrunk. 

"What did you say?" Lilith frowned. 

"Sorry, uhm, Nomi?" She offered. Lilith glanced at the open book. 

"Where did you get that from?" Sami sounded uninterested, but she was looking straight at her. 

"You mentioned it." Zoe felt her mouth dry. "When you were, uh, hypnotized."

The girls looked at each other. Lilith had grabbed and closed the book. 

"It's nothing." Sami stretched without looking at her. "Really, don't worry about it."

"It's just a secret we have." Lilith explained. 

"Yeah." 

"That's why we don't tell anyone about it." Lilith added, glaring at Sami, who shrugged. 

"Bitch, I was hypnotized." 

Zoe blinked. "Oh." She glanced at the book, then at Lilith, who blinked at her. "Um, nothing."

The two girls stared at her again. Zoe just smiled awkwardly and sat straighter. 

She figured Nomi was a spell on the book they didn't want her to know. It was fine, she could just search it in the library... what she didn't understand was why they acted so weird about it. 

"So, Zoe, have you changed your mind?" Lilith asked after a weird, long pause. Zoe frowned. "About just watching and practicing?"

"Oh." She said, like she needed time to decide. "N-no, no, I haven't changed my mind."

"Really? Didn't it look fun?"

She hesitated. They seemed like they had fun, but... she wasn't very open to being hypnotized by them two, despite their best intentions, considering the things they apparently got up to.

"It's just not my thing." She tried, weakly. 

"Well, not really my thing either..." Lilith said. "Maybe it's Sami's?"

"Right, no, sorry." Zoe shook her head.

"But I did let you do me anyways, right?"

"W-well." She hesitated. She wanted to argue Lilith was the one to suggest she didn't have to get hypnotized, but...

"You don't have to worry, Zoe." Sami offered her a smile. "Like, with how skittish you are, you'll break out pretty easily."

"Yeah. The happy spell is pretty simple." Lilith mused. Zoe shook her head, uncertain. 

"I never been hypnotized." 

"So?"

"It's gonna be harder to resist it right?"

"Should be easier, actually."

"... Oh." She just didn't want to, though. The two girls were looking at her. "Um... sure."

She said it before she decided, but there was no turning back. Nothing bad was going to happen- she just needed to stop being so scared for no reason- Lilith and Sami went so far with each other because they knew their limits, they'd go easy on her- they had, already. Still...

"What are you gonna make me do?" She asked quietly. "Which one of you..."

"Me." They both said at the same time. 

"... We'll rock paper scissors." Lilith concluded. 

"... Okay. So what are you gonna-"

"Relax, Zoe." Sami laughed. "We'll just make you bark and meow like you made Lilith do." 

She blushed bright red. Well, that wouldn't be so bad, all things considered...

"I won't remember it, right?" She pleaded. 

"Not a thing. Also, let me tell you, you'll feel great afterwards." 

"Yeah, it's a happy spell for a reason."

Zoe smiled hesitantly. "Sure."

She still didn't want to, though. She watched, without paying much attention, as the girls played rock-paper-scissors, drawing five times, accusing each other of cheating and other unrelated things, until Lilith won two to one. 

"Yeah, fuck you Sami." She celebrated. "Zoe are you ready?"

She was not.

"Yeah." She said. 

"Okay, sit comfortable and look straight at me." 

She did. While Lilith opened and read the book --was it the page of the happy spell? It had to be-- Sami stood up and sat behind her.

"Gods, Zoe, relax." She said, rubbing her shoulders to try to comfort her. Lilith looked up and they locked eyes.

She heard the first few words, and then...

'Happy' was such a funny word. Zoe didn't feel that way often. 

There was something so simple about it. 

The warmth in her chest, the fuzzy feeling in her stomach. 

She couldn't stop smiling. 

Sami was holding her shoulders and Lilith was saying something and Zoe responded and her own words were just funny sounds that made her laugh. 

Feeling that way should be easier, she thought, until the spell slowly dissipated and she was more and more aware of Sami's hands on her shoulders, lowering down her arms.

She jumped an inch and turned around. Sami held her hands up, laughing. 

"Uh, hi." Zoe blurted for some reason. She turned to Lilith. "Wh-"

"Damn, Zoe, that was like ten seconds." The girl said, seemingly a little disappointed with her own skills. 

"Oh, sorry."

"What? No, that was good." 

"Yeah, really good." Sami agreed. "I told you you'd break free easily." 

Zoe couldn't help but laugh. She'd actually wanted the fuzzy feelings to last longer, but she was just glad it wasn't like she feared it would be. "Uh, what made me snap out of it?"

"Honestly?"

"Not much." Sami was sitting so close next to her. She wanted to move away but she didn't want to offend her. "We just asked some questions."

She frowned. "What did you ask?"

"You know, your favorite positions, how often you touch yourself, stuff like that." Lilith explained, like what she was saying was normal. 

Zoe looked at her. "What?"
