If you ask ten different people what trance feels like, you’ll get twelve different answers. Everyone experiences it differently.
I’ve heard it described as feeling light, or floaty, or dreamlike, or controlling, or like a box slowly closing in on the mind.
But for me, whenever I enter trance… I sink.
I feel the weight of trance bear down on my mind, causing it to sink down, as if through a black ocean of hypnotic warmth.
Often, it’s a slow descent. Multiple countdowns and soft breathing cause me to let trance gradually envelop me until I’m so far deep down that I can’t see the surface.
But other times, it’s a plunge. A hypnotist fractionating me, pulling me up only to fire me back down with the force of a cannon.
However I’m brought down, it’s a perpetual fall, with no floor. Eventually the law of diminishing returns means that I stop noticing it, but the fall itself never stops. It simply becomes a part of trance. An inertial pull that always brings me deeper, even as I accept and respond to suggestions.
When other people describe trance, it sounds delightful. It makes me think pleasantly of escape, or confinement, or both at once. But the feeling I have with trance, the pressure and weight of it, the heaviness it bears on my mind…
Trance is truly a beautiful thing.
