Tonight is the winter solstice. The darkest night of the year.

It is a time for rest and reflection, warm and safe, sheltered from the frigid elements outside.

You can picture yourself alone, in a secluded cabin next to a warm, cozy fire.

Snow falls outside, covering the world in fresh blanket of powder, glowing silver blue in the gentle moonlight.

You’re sitting in a warm, comfortable chair, just the right distance from the fire. Its warmth radiates over you, relaxing your tired muscles, helping you sink deeper into your soft chair.

The night is still and peaceful. There is nobody to bother you and you feel safe and cozy in your snug little cabin, far away.

Your eyes rest in the flickering light of the fire, the dancing flames mesmerizing you. Your mind drifts inward, sinking into your own thoughts, wandering across corners of distant dreams.

For weeks, the world watched the sunlight growing dimmer and dimmer, fainter and fainter, drawing the whole earth into a quiet, placid tranquility. A kind of collective trance deepening as the sun drooped lower and lower each day, until the whole world, your whole world, gradually froze in a deep winter’s sleep.

You continue to gaze into the glowing embers of the fire, the deep peace of winter seeping into your bones.

You stretch your toes out to the fire, spreading and wiggling them, feeling the heat melt away all the tension in your toes.

The warmth spreads over your feet.

It feels cozy and relaxing.

You take a deep breath in, your body sinking into your chair.

The heat moves up your calves, over your legs and thighs.

Take a deep breath.

The heat swirls around your hips, turning your muscles to lead. That’s fine. You don’t need to get up.

You don’t want to get up.

Take a breath.

The warmth swells up your stomach, over your chest.

Down your arms.

It makes every part of your body feel loose,

heavy,

relaxed,

tranquil,

cozy and sleepy…

The wind whistles gently and the fire snaps and hums.

Like a gentle lullaby soothing you

Making your body so relaxed, cozy, and sleepy…

Your head swivels around in little circles as you gaze happily into the fire. It’s like the flames are dancing for you.

Pretty little flames seducing you.

The heat grows in your chest as you keep taking long, easy, relaxing breaths. The warm feeling is sliding up the back of your neck and filling up your head.

The heat is in your head and starts to melt your brain.

Your brain is a stubborn block of ice and it’s melting.

The more you read, the more you breathe, stoking the heat inside you like big bellows, the more your brain melts.

Watching the pretty flames.

Breathing, stoking the warmth inside you.

Your brain melting more and more. Getting warmer and softer, wetter and slicker. Your thoughts turning to water and dripping down the back of your spine.

Warmer and warmer…

Heavier and sleepier…

Thoughts melting away…

Your eyes are held by the fire. Your body slumps so heavy into the chair as the warm feeling in your head melts your brain.

It feels so good, so relaxing

Just letting yourself drift along, thoughts dripping out of your head

Smiling lazily into the fire and feeling so warm and sleepy and cozy…

Your thoughts are just too wet and slippery, sliding out of your slick mind.

Every time you try to think, your thought just melts and slides down your body.

Too wet and slippery to think.

Too cozy and sleepy to worry.

No thoughts, no thinking, just your brain melting…

Smaller

And smaller

And smaller…

Your brain melting away and all gone …right…now…

Your head feels so light and floaty. No thoughts in your head any more.

Just smiling happily, gazing passively into the fire. Watching the pretty dancing flames.

No thoughts, just sleepy, happy, and relaxed…

You could just float here forever, shut away in your cozy cabin, peaceful, lazy, and sleepy in front of your warm fire.

You feel safe. Secure. Protected.

Nobody is watching you. You can let yourself relax however you want.

You want to feel good. You want your sleepy, tired, heavy body to feel good.

If you enjoy it, you can imagine your hands running over your body.

You want to feel good. You want to touch yourself and make yourself feel good.

Head so empty and mindless, happy and passive, as your hands give you pleasure.

The heat is getting stronger and stronger in your body. It turns your muscles to jelly, except your hands which keep making you feel good.

You smile and stare vacantly into the fire.

You don’t have any thoughts. You don’t need any thoughts.

You just feel pleasure.

Warm, cozy, joyful pleasure as your hands touch yourself.

You feel so good and happy,

So empty and joyful.

Let the warmth inside you flutter and swell, then die down, then swell up full again.

Up and down.

Back and forth.

So silly, and happy, and thoughtless.

Your hands filling your body with joy.

Your brain completely melting away and no other thoughts than these words stamping into your wet, drippy brain.

You love feeling good.

You will make yourself feel good tonight.

Maybe you will keep making yourself feel joyful.

So joyful you’ll pop open with ecstasy, either alone or with someone who makes you feel good.

Maybe you will do something to take care of yourself.

Take a warm, cozy bath…

Or go to bed and sleep deep in deep sleep, sleeping so deeply and feeling so restful after your deep sleep.

Or maybe you’ll stay here, in your warm cozy chair, continuing to gaze happily into the pretty fire, feeling your thoughts melting and slipping, slipping and melting…

You will do whatever gives you the most pleasure, no mind to worry with, no concerns or problems…

Just anything safe that makes you feel good.

If you wish, you can stay here and watch the pretty fire, and just feel your head so light and happy, your body so heavy and joyful.

Or, if you’d like, you can start to drift up and out.

Drifting up, higher and higher, away from your cozy fire.

No longer in your safe little cabin.

Coming back to where you are. Becoming aware of the room and your surroundings.

Feeling so wonderful, happy, and refreshed…

Taking that sense of peace and happiness with you into the next year.

The sun is coming up, bringing light back to the world, slowly waking it up from deep trance.

Getting brighter and brighter, more and more awake with…
