Not that she could’ve explained how it happened, anyway. Back when she’d been smart, she could’ve, but not so much these days. Smart Renee could’ve recognized that the “marine life article” was a disguised ad; her alarm bells would ring when the site asked for her credit card information just for a free trial; and if it came to it, she could’ve navigated the roach motel of cancelling the subscription. Smart Renee would’ve been terrified that her new bimbo self still had her credit card information memorized.

But Smart Renee was gone now, and it took twelve weekly eels (for the low price of $79.99 per year after trial) for Miss Megan to realize what was going on. She couldn’t return the eels, of course, but she did cancel any further shipments, and she made sure to scrub the credit card information out of renee’s brain as soon as possible.

The eels moved to renee’s room – they were her responsibility, after all, and they gave her a little something to feel in control of. Sometimes, renee and tanya just lie together and watch the eels, happy simply to share the space.
