This one is… not exactly a continuation, it certainly stands on its own, but it takes place at the same company I wrote about in Day 16: Hacking/Hijacking. Same content warnings apply here.

Subject: Staff Development Day Concerns
 
Dear Mr. Rutherford,
 
I am writing to express my concerns with the ethics of the request that came to me from your office this morning. 
 
I understand that part of the role I was hired for includes the development and facilitation of an employee health initiative for staff. However, I have concerns about your request for me to use covert hypnosis strategies with staff to increase productivity and company loyalty. I am aware that I have stretched my limits around covert and non-consensual hypnosis and brainwashing in the past, particularly around the new System Security Protocol, but… I mean, that’s for hackers who are getting in where they aren’t supposed to be in the first place. In some ways, anyone encountering that system kind of deserves what they get. This is for our own staff, who are simply doing what they’re told, and they trust us. It’s different.
 
If staff performance is a concern, that appears to be an issue to be taken on by your Human Resources department. Same goes for loyalty to the company. Employees should be here because they want to be here and because we provide them with a good place to work, not because we brainwash them to put the company over their families!
 
Due to these concerns, I am requesting a meeting with you to discuss the content of the upcoming Staff Development Day.

Subject: Meeting Follow-Up
 
Dear Mr. Rutherford,
 
Thank you so much for meeting with me yesterday, Sir! As you suggested, I took the night to think about it, and I think you have addressed all of my concerns! In fact, even looking at our previous correspondence, I find myself at a loss as to why I was ever concerned in the first place. Not to mention that your offer to double my compensation for facilitating was very generous, Sir!
 
I would be honoured to design and facilitate the Staff Development Day as originally planned.
